OT: It's May...You Know What That Means...INDY!!!

Recommended Posts

Reasons Indycar > Nascar

1. Indycar doesn't give laps back without earning it.
2. Indycars don't have fake headlights and taillights.
3. Indycar doesn't play with the points so favorite drivers are in contention for the championship.
4. Indycar doesn't have a green/white/checker to prevent an unknown driver from winning by using good strategy.
5. Indycar uses state of the art engines, not technology from the 1950's. (Nascar gets some points for finally using fuel injection)
6. Heavy Nascar cars on road courses. They wallow through turns like an elephant on an obstacle course.

What did I miss?

Rubbing is racing man. Open wheel limits that. Ever been to a restrict or-plate race? Driving in a 42-car freight train going 200 mph takes talent. I will say the tech is better in IRL, and it is a purer form of racing but would have to disagree it's better.

-230 frickin miles per hour.
-Indy pace laps being about as fast as NASCAR green laps.
-Actually exciting racing on ovals...and road courses.

But I like your list too.

Not trying to be an arse, genuinely curious. What do you like more about NASCAR? I love speed and clinically insane people driving cars, so I gravitate toward Indy.

I love the contact, cars that are twice as heavy as Indy Cars going that fast, Nascar being more like real cars than Indy(I hate the open wheel/no roof aspect), more cars, and the atmosphere of being at the track(I've been to both Indy and Nascar races).

I don't hate Indy Cars but they aren't even close to Nascar when it comes to which I'd rather watch.

I can see that. And most NASCAR fans I know feel the same as far as contact and number of cars, but I'm just the opposite. I like the speed and finesse of the IndyCars. I always point people to the Nashville, Kentucky, and Texas IndyCar races to show them absolutely insane racing. I've been to the Daytona 500 (and the Snore 400 at the Brickyard) and Indy obviously...the tradition and everything that comes with Indy blows anything else out of the water, although Daytona was still awesome. I don't hate NASCAR at all and I usually catch at least some of most races but I refuse to watch the road courses and short tracks besides Bristol. They just don't do it for me lol. All personal preference. Some people watch women's basketball and I don't get that either. :)

Im the same way towards Indy. I don't hate it and I'll catch some races too.

I don't get women's basketball either for what it's worth. Lol

IndyCar doesn't throw mystery debris cautions just cuz the leader had the gumption to have a sizable lead.

I went to one Brickyard 400 (free tickets) and a vendor gave me tickets and rented a home for a weekend to see all the Bristol summer races. Brought my so with me to Bristol. He loves Indy. He now hates Nascar.  I am curious what about the atmosphere you like better?

The crowd in Indy for Nascar is largely the same class that you would find at a UK game. It is worse in Bristol.  My son couldn't wait to get away from there.  It reminded him of the WWF wrestling his grandpa took him to with tickets a radio station gave away..

Indy cars don't resemble road cars because they are built for speed.  I could understand Nascar if stock cars were built from actual road cars like they used to be. Why custom build a heavy car to kind of look like an existing road car?

I've been to a lot of races in both Indy and Nascar. The overall environment of nascar is 1000x more enjoyable than Indy. I've ran into so many rude and snotty people at Indy races that it's not even funny. It's night and day compared to Nascar when it comes to that. I've been to Indy races in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Illinois. I've also been to Nascar races in Bristol, Richmond, Texas, and Indiana. I've had the fan experience in both sports in multiple places and I always enjoyed myself more at Nascar events.

The UK/Nascar comment is laughable to be perfectly honest but everyone has different experiences.

Honestly, IMS is a terrible place to watch a race. Cannot see the whole track from any one point. For sure the track was built for the Indy cars because they generate so much more down force. NASCAR handle on IMS like a freight train on a frozen pond.
I have always liked the fact that NASCAR cars don't handle that well and can be used to nudge your surrounding drivers. It adds an element of intimidation that IRL doesn't have.

At the same time, Indycars have built in intimidation where if you DO bump, there's the chance that you won't live through the ensuing crash. It sounds bad but it's true. It's just a finesse vs. contact thing like I said before. Depends on what you prefer.

As a life long race fan I will weigh in on this. I love short track racing almost as much as iu basketball but nascar has become very boring however I still watch lol. There is indy car racing and I like that as much or same usually as nascar. Then there is the indy 500 and if you aren't excited for that race you aren't a race fan. The build up ia always exiting the race usually is too. It really is in a league of its own and the best race of the year imo.

Indy may be more technologically advanced, but I still prefer NASCAR.  You can use the bump people to get them out of their lane or to push them forward, do that in Indy and you thrash the vehicle.

In Nascar, you can bump your way around, in Indy Car, you have to be in control.  It's much more impressive imo.  Any ol redneck can bump their way around a track.  IndyCar takes more skill.

How exactly does it take more skill? They're too scared to touch each other.

Wouldn't people like Danica and JPM have dominated in Nascar also?

Racing at a faster speed than nascar, you have to be sure not to hit anything.  You don't see how that's more difficult than racing slower and being able to bump against things?
