Chapter Two: Now Indiana Needs Depth @ The 5 Spot

Recommended Posts

Bringing Thomas Bryant to Bloomington will be a major factor next year.  (I'd like to get that in writing) With H M Perea's continued progress that is an additional plus.  But IU needs another capable BIG!  Whether Thon Maker or an unknown, IU needs to "shore up" the post.

I've never understood the Jeremiah April situation - and, obviously, almost never saw him play - so I am, as I was all season, very much in the dark on what is or isn't going on with him.

Regardless, without appreciable depth at the 5 and a couple of quick fouls - or whatever - and Indiana's back to playing "patti-cake" in the paint.

Don't forget Holt now...

I'm pretty excited about our 5 spot depth right now actually.  Would be nice if senior HMP were to step it up as a senior though, as Thomas Bryant is still a freshman and will make freshman mistakes (no matter how good they are). Our 5-spot depth is oozing with potential right now, let's just hope they put in work this off-season.

Freshman Bryant

Sophomore Holt

Senior Perea

Oooo-weeee!

perea is a 4 and Holt is an undersized 4. 6'7"

I would say holt plays bigger than that. Blair at Pitt was an animal in their system at 6'7"

He was the definition of a man. Remember when he threw Hasheem Thabeet over his shoulder on a rebound?

Edit: If you don't....

Crazy! He had my full attention watching games. I could care less what the ball was doing. The dude played pissed off without being annoying about it. Ruthless and unrelenting. The opposing could get a rebound and he was still going at it instead of getting back lol

He also doesn't have any ACL left....in either knee!!! As Hova said, he is the definition of a man.

Another big would be a luxury at this point.   Nice to have, however in Crean's system, not necessarily "needed" given who we have on the roster.   We definitely need a couple in the 2016 recruiting class, but next season between Perea, Holt, and Davis, there's plenty of "spot minutes" to defend the post and play in the paint when Bryant's out.

I don't understand April OR Priller.  Or Guy Marc-Michele.  Or Bawa Muniru.  Or Peter Jurkin.  Or Tijan Jobe.   That kind of player (raw, inexperienced, not very strong, and without much instinct) will never succeed in the Big Ten, and will never help Indiana get back to or stay on top.   The staff simply needs to do a better job finding and signing kids who can and will be successful at this level and in their system.   That would cure almost every ill, I think.   No more gambles on potential "diamonds in the rough."    No more experiments.   At least until things have stabilized and the roster is solid top to bottom.  No more trying to out think or out guess people.   If the right guys are jettisoned, next season's roster looks really strong.   I truly believe we have what we need for one season.    Time to build on that foundation.

Yogi has a ways to go defensively and with shooting consistency before he's ready.   With just 30 first round picks, I am consistently amazed at the seemingly 300 kids every year who are rumored to be NBA ready.   The jump from college to the NBA is HUGE.   Andrew Harrison (who's 6'6") is projected "out of the draft" ranked #87 in this draft class.  What would make Yogi think he's ready to go?   He's good as a college point guard.   He is not an NBA point guard right now, and he's certainly not yet a mid or high first rounder.    I would think there's no question he'll be back unless he's getting bad advice.    He's still only 5'11".

But..back on topic, I'd say April is likely gone.   Priller needs to be next, and Indiana's roster is absolutely stacked.
