HoosierAloha Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 At least Troy can drive and make someone work to gaurd him!! And I'll take players that can drive and get to the bucket over a 3 ball guy all day! You ask y? Simple, higher percentage shot and it doesn't matter how much we improve on offense, we need a defense to win! Troy did a better job this season taking the ball with him when he drove. However, he was most effective with someone else driving and dishing to him slashing to the rim. He's not a great ball handler in traffic, as shown by his turnover%. Colin did a good job of pulling the opponents big out of the lane until they started to switch their big on Troy and hangout in the lane to stop dribble penetration. IUHoosier5 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I honestly have no idea here, but can Nick Z run the point? His ball handling looked shaky at best when pressure was put on him. I definitely don't see him as a PG Quote
Hoosiers High Life Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Seriously? He can say his strengths are whatever he wants them to be. It's whether or not he actually possesses those strengths against the competition he will face at IU (a level of competition that he has NEVER gone against). If we're saying a guy should start because HE said that he is good at certain things, then I'm not sure about the "Indiana fans have bball IQ" argument. We will see I guess Hartman ain't that great and you want that in are starting 5? That doesn't make sense either I don't want anyone that has to shoot a 3 to score in our starting 5 sorry can't just be one dimensional on offense Quote

(Not to mention the fact that I NEVER mentioned Hartman in my post, even though I would gladly have him start at the 3 or 4) Let's say Yogi stays, in our likely starting lineup this year we will have: Yogi, who can drive and shoot the 3. If not Yogi, probably Rob who is similar and probably better at attacking the basket based on height. Jimmy, who can drive and shoot the 3. Troy, who is very good at going to the basket and has shown a decent jumper. Holt, Perea, Hartman, the first two are primarily inside players and Hartman is admittedly one dimensional on offense, but his one dimension helped to win us a few games this year. Bryant, who is a bruiser that shocked people with his 3 point shooting ability in the past few weeks. You can't deal with ONE guy who is primarily known as a 3 point shooter (but also brings many other solid attributes to the table) in the starting lineup, but instead want to start a completely unproven 6'8ish freshman wing? Because it looks like, around him, there are already 4 pretty multi-talented offensive players. mamasa, Bobman1, thebigweave and 1 other 4 Quote

Z is the most one dimensional we have and he was the best offensive player in the country last year. When we have such a potent offense, that should be the least of our worries. I think we should all be more concerned with how our defense is effected. And Collin isn't too bad of a defender. Bobman1, HoosierAloha, Hovadipo and 1 other 4 Quote
Bobman1 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Q: What would you say are your strengths, as both a player and a teammate? A: I would say athleticism, 3 point shooting, and defense, and as a teammate being unselfish and always supporting my teammates. I would also say passing is a strength of mine. So y can't this be in the starting 5? That's OG I don't know if you know this, but OG is the worst rated of our recruits. I know that doesn't mean much, but for people who have scouted him more than you have, they can see what he's like. He played High School ball in Missouri, that's a world a way from college ball in the Big Ten. There is no way an unproven, raw, freshman forward starts on this years team. Quote
Bobman1 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Plus Hartman was a big role in our success when Hanner was gone. He does more on offend then "just shoot 3's" and played the hardest defense. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
Hoosiers High Life Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hartman wouldn't start on my team I would rather see hanner at the 4 but crean doesn't like to put two big men on the floor at same time I think if he put hanner and Bryant on the floor at same time no one will out rebound us can't say the same about Hartman and Bryant beside y not put more height on the court guys we need it and Hartman is one dimensional on offense. How can you say he isn't? But like I said in a post earlier I'm more worried about defense and saying Hartman is are hardest defender is sad. He is slow and I watched blow right by him as they did the rest of the team. Quote
Hoosiers High Life Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Steve Alford had a very good college career! Different era, different coach, different offense Quote

If CTC doesn't start one of Holt ,Perea or Morgan at the 4 beside TB he should go ahead and hire a real estate agent because he'll most likely be relocating. His midget ball doesn't work in this league. It's crazy to think Z could run the point. Nearly every time he was trapped last year he coughed up the ball and he couldn't guard my mother. But she's pretty quick for 84 so there's that. Hoosiers High Life 1 Quote
Jketch Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Y'all are sleeping on OG and Morgan, would not be surprised if one of them worked into starting 5. I know you all feel Hartman is such a key player, but I just don't think he will start because of his lack of athleticism and he was known for defense and threes and the freshman may be able to show more upside...Then if Perea doesn't improve I don't know if he will start either, leaving room for one of the freshman. Hartman actually had a solid OR% and a good 2PT%, just not many attempts. Also if Hanner and Bryant are on the court one will have to be consistent from mid-range at minimum unless we completely change the offense to a more Izzo style. thebigweave and Hovadipo 2 Quote

Your right on Hanner but he actually does have a nice little jumper, just didn't get to see it much last year playing totally out of position. Actually Holt showed a nice 5 footer in high school as did Morgan along with a decent 3 point shot. None of those three are 5's and given the opportunity to play the 4 with the addition of TB one should emerge as a reliable scoring option.Morgan and Holt are natural rebounders and Hanner should be a great weak side rim protector. I love what Collin brings to the team but all three of those guys are better suited for that position. I really feel like Hartman should come off the bench as relief at the 4 ,3 and 2 for that matter when JBJ's having one of his off nights. HoosierAloha 1 Quote

Iufan2324 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I'd like to add that Stan was a harder defender than anyone on the team last year. Stan is so overrated on defense. Yogi was the best defender defending people sometimes at least a foot taller or the other teams best perimeter player. Was the hardest defender by far. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 To me, Crean's utilization of Stan was one of his biggest coaching blunders last year. Stan offered nothing on offense and was quite overrated on D as well. (I relate it to a total loss of confidence) Those minutes needed to go elsewhere. Holt? Max? Ziesloft? April? More for the other guards? Heck anyone but Priller. He kept playing Stan key minutes when it was clear Stan was a detriment. Game after game. Bobman1 and Iufan2324 2 Quote
