The fans aren't going to the games?

Sorry, but Crean has his antics too. They just have a negative outcome on the game instead of helping like Knights. Instead of working the officials, he's working the fans. Instead of intinidating the officials, he's pacing the sidelines and talking to the other team's players. Instead of watching the games, he's still pacing and consulting his 3x5 card in between aggressively sucking his drink bottle. Instead of instructing his players, he normally has that wtf face like I have no clue. I really don't think he watches the games or understands them just based on his normal post game pressor where he can't remember. He usually states he needs to look at film or asks the reporter what he thinks. His lack of making real time decisioins based on his high pay scale is his biggest weakness imo. Of course that doesn't include his teams never being strong enough to play defense or having any sense of continuity or patience or unselfishness true championship teams have.

Schoo,
I'll credit you on nailing crean for his real-time strategy, this was apparent against Syracure. Having coached myself, i can say that that can be the most difficult aspect of coaching, that's why it takes a special coach to be successful. It is much easier to make adjustments to the game from a distance than in the middle of action. No doubt lacking the quick thinking, detached from the personal aspects of the game type thinking hurts his coaching.

Does this mean you disagree with what I said or just with me ? Because if its with what I said, I sure didn't read anything to refute it. Certainly you can dissect my quote much better than that if in fact that's what your rebuttal was about. Icant wait to read about your perceived Crean coaching prowess.

You don't like him as a person as much as a coach. I don't like him as a coach. The stuff like sipping a diet coke or walking the sideline has exactly jack to do with him as a coach. I have played sports all of my life and you drowned out some solid points with asinine examples due to your dislike of the man not the coach.

And I thought the Billy Madison quote was the perfect response to your post. I haven't laughed that hard to be able to use that quote in a while.

Sorry but you are wrong. I judge him by his coaching, and the rest is because of his lack of it. Do you really think his weirdness would be bothersome if he had us consistently competing for titles? Nope, in fact they would be celebrated just like the half sweaters being sold cause Knight use to hike his on his belly. My opinion is that Crean doesn't comprehend play and continuity during games. And his incessant pacing among others I think contributes. You see it as a personal thing. I see it that he just sucks as a coach.

Let me ask you what effect him doing the things that irritate you have on the 5 on the floor? If there is a response beyond nothing I will go back to my original response. It means nothing to those men on the floor. I honestly have never myself or played any sport with anyone where we gave a rats ass what the coach was doing beyond calling the play. Again I DO NOT LIKE him as a coach but the other stuff is annoying but means jack to the 5 on the floor.

I actually judge him on his coaching. I have never thought of bringing up that crap to describe ones ability as a coach.

It means everything to these men on the floor since Crean does the subbing, play calling and timeouts. Just like you said calling the play. How you don't think Creans lack of game comprehension andhow game behaviors may affect his play calling is interesting considering you seem concerned about the players. Like I said his weirdness would be celebrated if he regularly won. But he doesn't so their not unlike say Bobby Knight. Would you agree Indiana put up with Knight's shenanigans since he won regularly. Funny thing we still made fun of him.

I don't think we made fun of him. We said, "he is the f'ing man." I do not think what Crean does (clapping wise), drinks, or looks like has any bearing whatsoever on the floor. Knight did most of his damage when it was uncommon to do the things he was doing. People were scared shitless of him because he was uncommon. His shenanigans were abusive. Different era. He couldn't get away with today what he did then no matter how good he was.

His coaching techniques were uncommon? You can't be serious. Do you realized he watched Woody Hayes' practices while a student at Ohio State? His techniques were exactly in line with most from his era. Do you know most coaches of that time withheld water to their players? I knew a well known coach in Madison County who use to whip his player with an athletic taped towel; a high school coach. And you think Knight was uncommon? Sorry, but hearing you say you played sports in that era; hence your username 82, you must have not played football or basketball.

Read it again cupcake...  Yes I played sports.  I never said I played in that era.  Coaches would have ended up in jail when I first played sports 25 years ago if they did what he did.  His antics towards the refs, media were not common.  I will let you relive your glory days from 40 years ago I guess since that is the outdated standard we must have.

I guess it is true what they say.  Evolve or get left on the outside.  Looks like our perception of what is important is stuck in the 80s.  Unlike other schools we never evolved.  So, in a roundabout way I should blame the old-timers since we aren't elite anymore?  If I have to listen to batshit crazy responses as to what kids my age give a damn about in a coach (clapping, drinking diet coke, pacing), then I blame people your age for not evolving and keeping us elite.  Because, your generation is when we quit being elite.  Not mine.

Edit:  Now I see why you enjoy making generalizations toward Crean like you do as a person.  I am having a blast now cupcake.

Just remember cupcake.  Just since you own a fantasy league team, doesn't mean you know what is going on.  You might have to play a sport past the 5th grade to make the generalizations you do.  God knows you didn't play sports when you bring up the things you do that you think make a difference.

Edit:  See, I can be a condescending prick too....  Aren't we two peas in a pod?  Besties?

Lol, no.  I played real sports while you sat at home on your couch thinking you knew what was going on.  Cupcake  :thankyou:

Which sport was that or is it a secret? Coudnt have been basketball by your obvious lack of what it takes to win or coach it. Tennis?

Tennis isn't a sport? They don't track wins or coach to win? Not that mdn needs help, but you're fighting a losing battle.
