When You've Lost The Locker Room

Recommended Posts

To be quite honest, I don't think it's too much to want our kids to be above it all...drinking, smoking, etc....are we just saying all kids do it so let's have low expectations...bullshit....not every kid smokes or drinks...simple...if we are recruiting kids who might, then look further on down the road...eventually, we will come around again with kids who know better

Gary Parrish updated his column just now with additional information from a former student manager. His comments are interesting, especially the part about how Crean lost Yogi, Hanner and the other members of that class who have since left the program. Seems like Crean has failed to reach those two, even to this day.

I question the judgment of someone who is openly bad-mouthing a former boss in today's day and age.  Good luck passing the Google test for the next job interview Tyler.

Well, it's kind of hard to talk conspiracy with everything coming out....why should we not believe this kid? I see proof everywhere of problems with this team and no proof the kid is lying...

Yea I think many of us would be this upset even if we won 23 games last year.  Do you not have a long memory.  CKS had the team ranked in the top 10 when he went down and everything came out about the failed drug tests.  I know it sounds corney, but this is Indiana, we want to win, but more importantly we want to do so with kids that represent what a student athlete is, we want to do so with kids that understand what it means to play at IU, we want to do so with kids that represent the university the way it should be.

have we had kids the past that were not perfect, yep we did but like some one said we have had 6 kids caught in the past 9 months, and the biggest penalties are 2 regular season games, that is not acceptable, esp in light of what CTC said when he got the job and the conditions under which he took over the program.  Had he come into a DUI, and 2 players with multiple failed drug tests, they would have been dismissed

In that season it was not the failed drug tests that took Sampson down, it was NCAA violations.  Armon sat multiple games due to failed drug tests early in season (missed the Kentucky game) and it was not a big deal.  The season went on and everyone was excited up until the NCAA violations came out.

True it was the violations, but the failed tests by Bassett, Crawford, Eliis (I think), Thomas, and others made that team hard to cheer for and lead to many of them not being welcome back to the program.

If it were just the violations and not the other stuff I doubt that 2 walk-ons would have been the only kids to return to the program.  As the info about those kids started to come out, they were very hard to cheer for, and if not for DJ, EJ and Stemler I would have quit watching them play early in the year.  Most IU fans would admit they enjoyed the teams the next few year more even though they only won a few games each because they appeared to get what it meant to play at IU and seemed to work hard and stay out of trouble.

Different people would have different reactions under different circumstances.

Personally, I'm not upset that our players drink. I'm not upset that they smoke pot. They're in college. That's what college kids do. I am upset about the timing of when they choose to engage in these activities. I am upset that they either have so little fear of the consequences of their actions that they flaunt their bad decisions or they just aren't smart enough to not get caught. And, yes, it doesn't make it any better that they are coming off a terrible season because their actions make it appear publicly that they aren't all that concerned about the bad basketball we saw last season.

We basically ask two things out of Indiana basketball players: 1) Represent the university, the fans, the alumni, the students and the state well. 2) Win basketball games.

Right now, there is failure on both counts. There is someone who is being paid a lot of money to be in charge to make sure those two things are done. He's not doing the job right now.

You guys talk about failing a drug test like it's rape. You don't get rid of kids for failing a drug test or getting a DUI. You try to help them.

And sometimes the best "help" is to stop enabling them and to show them that their actions have consequences - and predictable ones, at that. Also, for the record, with Stanford we're talking about TWO failed drug tests and one alcohol-related citation. Look, I'm all-for a locker room intervention with Dr. Phil and a plane ticket waiting to send the kid to Betty Ford if you think this needs to be treated as an ongoing substance abuse issue, but that needs to be combined with much bigger consequences than missing two regular-season, pre-conference games.

Kids make mistakes, but I'm tired of hearing that excuse. They also have the option to turn it down. They are to blame, as is Coach. I may be in the minority, but I hate weed. Just like with a lot of things these days, it's being made okay even though it's not. I will stop, don't want to derail the thread.

Let's not even talk about Sampson and failed drug tests. With one notable exception, that entire team was stoned daily. I'd love to see the actual results of this tests. And let's not forget that almost all of that batch of stoners transferred and played in other division I programs. Interesting that they weren't failing drug tests there too.

I don't know why but I can't stop laughing at this reply. Not in a bad way.

Happy to help make you laugh lol

Well, one thing I've hoped to show is that I could care less if you disagree with me, just be respectful. A lot of people agree with it, and that's fine, but you will never see me disrespect anyone. (outside of my fellow mods and a few posters that I know)

Surprised the poster made that comment towards a mod in general. You can bet there's a short leash that all the mods are aware of.
