Anyone who claims they saw this coming is lying. Sure we heard all about how Crean can't coach and how Hanner didn't get enough suspension. But no one predicted he had lost the locker room like this. Not one person

I disagree. To those of us who've not been blinded by Crean's glad handing, back slapping, rah rah, go get em' boys approach to coaching, (aka. the Crean apologists), we've been saying this day was coming for some time. He has never been anything more than a snake oil salesman, content to bullsh!t his way through his tenure at IU, and now it has caught up with him, the team and the university. That anyone would actually think these things were NOT going on, given the complete lack of discipline, focus and excellence on the court, the curious defections, the previous rumors and police reports, is the bigger shocker.

I beg to differ. I couldn't predict specifics. But I was aware of internal problems a long time ago. All you have to do is watch for smoke to find fire and we had A LOT of smoke. Things weren't adding up. When you watch the moving parts and wonder why, questions arise. I've been criticized for being critical for a year and a half because I suspected big problems.

I mean, didn't we all question Hanner and Yogi and Stan? Those seemed to be threads that were taken over by "Crean can't coach" not "Crean has lost control." I blame the players more than Crean. You can't babysit an adult

What I'm most upset about is that I have never had the privilege of having thousands of fans cheer me on or chant my name. I have never had the honor to be apart of something so prestigious that players and coaches have been made gods in this state as a result of it. I have never put on an Indiana uniform. But I seem to care more than the guys who got the privilege of playing at Indiana. Getting wasted the night before a scrimmage for kids who idolize you. Smoking weed when you know you have drug tests and have to improve as a player. Driving drunk the night of a loss. Using a fake ID as the most recognizable person on campus and a leader on this team...a week from your birthday. It seems like they don't even know how to party correctly. There are players on this team who deserve to be here. At my count, about 8 players deserve to be here, including walk ons. 

Whoa, I'd say smoking only negatively affects one of those things for sure. Following the NFL's debate on medical marijuana adds a lot more context to the whole thing. It's pretty unbeatable for minor aches and pains associated with high level sports. Now, I'm not saying that that's why these kids were smoking, but it definitely doesn't have to be wholly negative to their performance.

But, on the other point, I have zero sympathy. You get into a position that requires you to adhere to a certain set of rules to have an amazing opportunity then you darn well adhere to that set of rules. I have no sympathy for law students that get public intox tickets that keep them from taking the bar right out of school for the same reason, you knew the expected behavior when you came in. At least adhere to it.

Don't see Davis playing this year. If everything stays how it is, personnel wise (coach included) this can still be a tourney team. Unfortunately, it seems like there are more punches coming and who knows what this team and its outlook may be a week from now.

 

No way this team is a "tourney team" unless you count the B1G tournament. Too many distractions. Too much drama. And too many players (apparently) just don’t care.

 

The real losers in this scenario are this years' rookies (Blackmon, Johnson, Hoetzel, Zeisloft and Priller) who hitched their wagon to this train wreck. I really feel bad for them, but I don’t see this "team" going anywhere this year.

There are a host of things, but the dissension between Vonleh and Crean was/is bigger than many want to admit. Fischer transferring. Calbert. KJ. Marlin. Etherington. Roth. Creek. MAJOR drop in recruiting post Blackmon. Hinted failed drug tests but multiple sources. The list is so much longer but just some of the warning signs.
