What irritates me JSHoosier--- is so many UK/Bama fans are just bandwagon fans----when you ask why they like them---their main answer is because they win a lot! 

 

We all want to win---but have some loyalty people!  Be True To Your School!

Oh yeah.  I know a few.  One never watched basketball much period, but all of a sudden he's a UK fan.  Same guy once told me he was a Purdue football fan, now he cheers for Alabama.

 

EDIT:  And I just realized I posted that original comment in the wrong thread.  Oops.

Schoosier---I was in The Hall for that one too if that's the one where he and Alford went for about 26 each---and we won!

 

Yes---he had mad

 

Without checking my recollection was 88 season after Alford graduated and they beat us. Remember Smart not playing well which was consistent for his big hopes that year. Long time ago lol.

They absolutely pounded us (IIRC) Chapman's freshman year.

That's what I remember and also it being played in Assembly Hall. I know we ended up playing UK at nuetral sights , but I think this started after this game. I also remember Chapman had a monster slam as I couldn't believe the hops he had. So many great players for both programs; just a damn shame we don't play now. This rivalry is the biggest in all of college basketball and coaches and AD's need to check their egos to get it done. I do think Glass and Crean tried to get it worked out though. I believe Cal just didn't want it is the reason.

In answer to your question LlHoosier---official school teams start in 6th grade.  However, there are younger basketball and football programs made up of students from just our elementary schools that play each other.  Then we sometimes take an all-star group and go play travel ball/other schools in basketball but that is not done every year.  We also have a joint football league we participate in starting in elementary school with Kentucky teams out of Owensboro.

I'm with you schoosier---the IU/UK rivalry must be renewed!

 

College basketball lost something when it ended and I honestly believe after we spanked Calipari in The Hall he did not want any part of Vic and company at Rupp the next year.  Down here in Southern Indiana some of their fans were fretting that IU may stand in the way of an undefeated season that year for UK because they were afraid IU would beat their young talent early. CHICKENS! 

 

It was only justice when Baylor or whoever it was beat them at Rupp early that next season.

 

Both parties need to try again!
