NCAA BBall Prediction/Seed/Round of Advancement

Recommended Posts

Killing some time here---Do you think IU will make the NCAA Bball tournament this next year?

If so---what seed will they have and to what round will they advance? Why?

I predict our guard play gets us in and we outperform preseason predictions.

I say--yes--we will be a dangerous 8th seed--and we advance to the sweet 16.

What you think and why?????

I could see us as a 6 if we finish top 5 in the big and i really think we could with the right breaks. The other side of that is we could be 8th in the Big and outside looking in.Hoosier Nation will explode if that happens.Dont even want to think about that sceanario!

Time to go to work  and get it done!Like I've said in previous post's this is a make or break season for this program in my opinion.Go Hoosiers!

I agree with rebel, I think this team is a lot better than everyone thinks. Our guard play will be great, and I think that HMP, DD, TW and Holt will make for a solid front court.

And by solid I mean able to make stops and defend the post against most teams. With the length and athleticism we have (not necessarily height, as none of the aforementioned players are over 6'9", but bigs with large wingspans and hops that will ideally bring the swat squad to AH -- HMP and Holt especially) that doesn't seem like a far-fetched possibility imo.

Obviously teams with traditional, large, back to the basket centers will be tougher for us to guard (i.e Hammons-- I think he'll go to town on us this year, but we'll still come away with the W) but if Crean utilizes our guard depth to press hard and force turnovers I believe that will compensate for the buckets we may allow down low.

I REALLY want to see this team use full court presses often. Like all the time. Or at least a lot.

Anyway, I project that we'll be in the 6-10 seed range. 10 if we have a decent season thats improved over last years -- 6 if we totally sucker punch the whole B1G and come in 2nd-4th in B1G (1st isn't probable b/c Wisky is gonna run the tables this year.)

No matter the seed though, I don't see this team getting past the sweet 16, not enough tourney experience nor real maturity. However a deeper run could be possible next season if we keep all our big pieces, and make a decent run this year.

Good analysis Lelgar4 and Woodson1980----I agree with both of you.

Team can surprise and overachieve but if it does not---trouble on horizon for Crean.

I am in the "partly sunny" crowd and I predict Crean and the Hoosiers get it done!

I am waiting to see if some of the "partly cloudy" crew or "doomsday preppers" weigh in and whether they predict no NCAA tourney!

State your opinion--take a position--and we will see who is right!

The key to this season will b if they can take care of the ball. If hanner can play smart d grab some rebounds and make easy put backs and stays out of foul trouble I know prob not likely. I fear james will play like a freshman on both ends of the court and that will b costly. I predict to finish 6th in the big and b a seven seed in tourney to lose in first round I hope I am way off. I realize there r a lot of other keys to winning this season but just listed some off top of my head. Everybody needs to step up and they could b really good but if not they could b really bad.

There is such a wide range of possibilities this year.  In my heart--I agree with Olivia that we have the talent to be top ten---but I am keeping my expectations in check  .As coonhounds said---- whether we have a solid inside crew and how quickly the freshman learn to play D1 defense are going to be key!

Hope the Hoosiers shock the world!

I could see us having a year somewhat like 2011-12 where we finish 11-7 in conference, although this year that to me would probably put us at a 6 or so seed instead of a 4 unless we beat Louisville and have a couple big B1G upsets.

I think S16 is an achievable task as long as we make the dance... Just saying though, I doubt anybody really expected that small ball UCONN team to do anything last year, but Shabazz took that team over and just killed it in March. To me, that's the kind of guy Yogi could be this and next year.

Hounds, I think you are pretty close other than the JBJ prediction.I think this kid has moxie and will play older than he is.

Nothing but a hunch but there just seems to be something about the way he carries Himself.I think he's going to be Kick A$$.

I can't believe I am even asking this---but where did all of our Gloom and Doomers go? Get yourself on record if you don't think we make the NCAA tourney this year and tell us why.  We love a factual debate!

Or--do you think we make the tournament too but don't want to admit it publicly?

Like many others, I think we have a wide range of outcomes.

Worst case: the team still doesn't click and players are out for themselves. The team has a mediocre OOC record with no signature wins, finishes below .500 in the B1G, misses on postseason play. The rumblings from those with the money grow louder but Dr. Glass doesn't make a change.

Best case: the team clicks and has each other's back on and off the court. The upperclassmen continue to show the youngsters how to party, in Cook Hall. Hanner translates his pure athleticism into a true paint protector and rebound machine. DD and Holt are serviceable down low backing up Hanner and Troy. Troy absolutely dominates on the wing attacking in transition and licking down on D. His shot is serviceable to keep defenders honest. The deep backcourt is as advertised. The team finishes with a few signature wins in the OOC season and catches the B1G by surprise with pressure D and a fast pace. Oh the team actually values the ball. IU is bounced in an entertaining Sweet 16 game.

Most likely case: the team continues to grow but can't really get it done. Finish middle of he pack in the B1G, lose in the 2nd round if the B1G tourney and are a bubble team if they make it in they win a game.

Why wouldn't "we" want to admit it? Just because some of us think that Crean won't win a championship doesn't mean we don't want the team to have success. I'd love to get proved wrong and Crean win one here.

Some of the crap that comes from the "sunshine pumpers" is laughable. I think some of you forget we all want IU to win.

I think a lot of you guys are politicians with your use of buzz words like ""Gloom and Doomers" and "sunshine pumpers".

I could honestly see IU struggling a little bit out of the gate with some tough matchups against Louisville, SMU, and the like. But those experiences will be invaluable come B1G time and the boys elevate their game.

I am hopeful that we will finish in the upper echelon in the B1G and make it to the tournament somewhere between a 4 and a 8 seed.

Hopefully over all this will be a decent season and a good foundation for next year. If not, things could get really ugly.

I agree. We may struggle early but this team has a lot of talent. If last year did not happen many on here would expect a top 5 finish in the BT and the national guys would be much higher too.

I expect a top 5 BT finish and a team that is in the bottom half of the top 25 the last half of the year. Not enough talent/experience to get to FF but enough that I would be very disappointed with no NCAA.

Less interested in saying where we bow out of NCAA but instead want this team to be playing very well at the end of the year.
