Starting Lineup Predictions

Recommended Posts

I would go with Yogi, JBJ, Z, Troy, and Hanner.

Z gives you that leadership and experience to start a game. Stan and Rob end up playing more minutes bc they are better players. Depending on who you are replacing and what you need in a particular game decides who comes into the game first. I would be fine with any of the 3 of Z, Rob and Stan starting.

I like:

Yogi
JBJ
Z3
Troy
Hanner

Stan the 6th man because it's where he seemed to do best last year & Rojo 7 (kinda both 6th really)

Devon will be first big off bench with Holt taking good minutes too.

Anyway, with that starting lineup, if out shooters get hot early, I could see us taking some big leads and Troy and Hanner getting the place rocking with a monster dunk... Opposing timeouts imminent!

I see Z3 as kind of a leader for the second unit, I think either Yogi or Nick (and occasionally both) should be on the court at all times. Plus Stan is a great defender and driver whereas I only see Nick as a spot up shooter.

Yogi

JBJ

Stan

Troy

HMP

Nick does move well without the ball though. But you are right Stan is a great driver, but has next to no shot

Of the bench with RoJo and instant offense, shooter and slasher.I think he can guard with his quickness and strength.

Also look for him to be point when Yogi's in foul trouble or needs a rest.

Actually I think he has the  potential to be a  a better all around player than JBJ.

I don't think he tops JBJ. Offensively JBJ is all around better and defensively I think they are about even

I meant as far as potential down the road.RoJo is a lot more athletic and stronger.I think he's already a better on ball defender.

His lateral quickness is really good.If JBJ struggles anywhere it will be on the defensive side.Im not worried about his scoring. Not trying to dog JBJ, just an opinion.

Not trying to pick a fight here---but I am impressed with all the Z3 picks as a possible starter.  For fun, go back and read some of the early posts when he committed.  I have always liked Z3---but even I am shocked that he could be a potential starter.  For the most part---no doubt Crean can recruit!  I am looking forward to seeing Z3 in action!

I was critical of the Zeisloft signing, and also picked him to start. But, I don't think those opinions really have much to do with each other. Most of the angst of the Zeisloft transfer wouldn't have happened if we had signed initial targets in the Spring, but the fact is we swung and missed on a lot of guys in the Spring and Zeisloft kind of paid for that in terms of the fans reaction. It was the third kind of "huh" singing in a row.

As far as him starting, I think he's a better fit with Yogi and JBJ than Stan is. Stan is a bit selfish offensively IMO and I'd much rather the ball becin the hands of Yogi and JBJ. I think Zeisloft is a guy that moves the ball, make smart plays and not turn it over. I prefer that with JBJ and a Yogi over Stan trying to barrel into three guys when nothing is there. I'll take that from Stan when one of, or both of, Yogi and/or JBJ are sitting.

Well I'm just speaking for me, not everyone else. For me, the two thoughts aren't related. I was down on the signing, for some of the reasons listed above, but that has nothing to do with my opinion that he should start at the beginning of the year. In my starting prediction I also said I'd expect RoJo to take over at some point.

Really my prediction of Zeisloft to start says more about how I feel about Stan than I did about the Zeisloft signing.

I don't think k the Zeisloft signing had much to do with missing on any recruits. The few recruits we didn't get that we went after hard were bigmen. I think the coaching staff had been looking at Zeisloft as a possible grad student for a bit

Of course the Zeisloft, Priller and April signings are unrelated, but the fanbases reaction isn't. The fact is Zeisloft was the third straight off the radar signing. The reaction was a collective reaction to a poor season and three straight off-the-radar signings, after swinging and missing on several higher priority targets. What position they we're is really irrelevant to the reaction from the fanbase.

I agree with Kepner on this one---Z3 was not a last minute panic move by Crean---I hear he was in the pipeline for some time and Crean liked what he could add to the team. Just because we don't know who all is being recruited doesn't mean the coaches aren't working behind the scenes.

Crean has an eye for talent.  Is he wrong sometimes? Sure. But his reputation as a talent identifier should not be denied.

My point is to compliment Z3 as exceeding expectations based on his talent---maybe Priller or a healthy April will show us something someday too. Remember---they haven't even played a game yet!
