I saw an article online that lists the 10 best coaches under 40 years old.   ok, so it's bleacherreport, but still interesting.
At #10, there's Zach Spiker.  Head basketball coach for army.  bob knight reincarnate? haha

Zach Spiker ---  68-83 career coaching record over 5 years.

The only two Army coaches to win at least 65 games in their first five seasons are Bob Knight and Mike Krzyzewski. Coach K is also the last bench boss to win at least 31 games and record a .500 record over a two-year span at Army, both of which Spiker has accomplished over the past two seasons. No one else has accomplished any of those goals for nearly 40 years.

Would Knight have took the 2002 team to the Final Four and won it? Besides the 92 team I don't see another team from 92 to 02 that had any chance of winning a title.

Well, I'd have felt much more comfortable with RMK on the sideline than Mike Davis.  Davis couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

He wrote that he was genuinely excited to coach that team, I do know that much.

1993 did too.  Should have won it too if not for the Henderson injury.  That's the best IU team I've ever seen live.

Knight also thought that 2002 team could have won it all with the addition of Kei Madison.  When Knight was fired Madison signed elsewhere.  Knight loved that team and thought he had a chance to win it all with them.

Agreed, Josh. I spaced the 93 Elite Eight team.

It's been said on other forums that he had really returned to recruiting full-time before the assemblance of that 2002 team. I think even though Maryland was talented with Juan Dixon that Knight would've found a way to win that game. The man was 3-0 in championship games.

Truth.  I believe he could have taken that 2002 team into a Final Four at least and would have outcoached Gary Williams if he had the chance.

I said it on reddit, and I'll say it here...Knight WOULD have won it in 2002, all the Zeller bros would have gone to IU, and the Davis/Samson fiasco would cease to exist.

We would've gotten Sean May too, Davis being coach was the reason we didn't get him.

I'll expand this even further and please don't take this as a knock to CTC (I think I have proven myself as a sunshine pumper of sorts), but I don't think Tom Crean would ever have made it to being Indiana's leading man... I think in Knight's perfect exit, he would have chosen his own replacement, whomever that might have been. Edit: words Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I'm not convinced that Knight would have retired by now, had Brand, (the traitorous bastard) left him the hell alone, so the point of whether Pat Knight would have replaced him is moot. In my opinion, there's no way that Crean would ever have been hired by Knight. No way, no how. Crean is too superficial, too greasy and two milk and cookies for Knight, so he'd have never even been considered. A former player under Knight most likely would have been considered and I suspect Alford would have been that player.

There's no doubt in my mind that under Knight's direction, the 2002 team would have won it all. He'd have more than compensated for any physical shortcomings we had against Maryland by whipping the ever loving dog shiat out of Gary Williams' coaching.

I know there are a LOT of CTC fans here, but as far as I'm concerned, we'll never get back to championship basketball as long as he's the coach. We'll always vacillate between very good and underachieving. Frankly, if I were the AD, I'd fired CTC tomorrow, then ask coach Knight what it would take for him to return to coaching. Money would not be an issue. After re-establishing our program as it should be, an orderly transfer of regimes, with Knight also directing that, could be set in motion.

Just my thoughts.

If Knight hadn't been fired then, he probably would've been forced out by now. Think of how much more sensitive our society has become to political correctness. Knight wouldn't last a second under today's societal standards.
