IU-Purdue Alumni Game

Recommended Posts

One more thing that I thought was funny, Purdouche could only round up 6 former players for their team!

Amazing, because according to Jan Jakich, on his show last week, ONLY Purdue could get former players to field an alumni team and it wasn't something that Indiana could do. Their players supposedly would line up to play, where Indiana wouldn't be able to get anyone...

Here is an article about last nights game.

Check my stats using BtownBanners

Jordan Hulls has always been tough on himself.

So naturally the former Indiana University point guard was more upset with the two free throws he missed with 6.1 seconds left

Dude was always the most anti-clutch player I've seen at IU.  Inside two minutes he was good, inside 30 seconds he was terrible.  Like it was planned that he'd miss every shot inside 30 seconds.  Weird.

Thanks for the link

Wow that's aggressive.  What "crap" are you accusing me of?

The whole "Jordan Hulls is the anti-clutch" was beaten to death on the original HSN.  That horse was beaten, shot, beaten again, then dropped off a cliff.  He's not even in the program anymore, so let's just drop it.  I was far from the biggest Verdell fan but even I don't talk about him turning the ball over twice before got off the bus, because he's not in the program anymore.

Sorry it offended you, I found it appropriate after the typical Jody performance yesterday.   No idea it made you so upset.

I still haven't forgotten him missing the front end of a one-and-one, up by 1, with about 15 seconds left at Nebraska, on our way to a one-point loss.

A couple weeks before that, he also missed a game-clincher against OSU at home. I never felt comfortable with him at the line in tight games.

Yeah, he was weird.  Excellent shooter and free throws...except for the last minute of the game.  Then he turned terrible.  Just like last night.

Offended?  Hardly.  I just don't think we should take these shots at players even after their playing careers are over.  Good players come up short in so called "clutch" situations, it happens because "clutch" is not a repeatable skill.  Derek Jeter is known as Captain Clutch, and he's struck out with runners in scoring position (and his playoff numbers are nearly identical to his regular season numbers).

He also missed one against Minnesota (?) late in the game, in the exact same game he followed it up by making the next two he took.

In that same Nebraska game Jones drove the lane with his head down (for about the 1000th time) into a triple team and got a forced shot blocked that turned into a wide open 3 on the other end, late in the 2nd half.

So it's ok to speak ill of Jones but not Hulls?  Hulls was what he was.  Why can't we mention it?  Are you his sibling or something?

I just gave an example of another player contributing to that loss, that's it.

Hulls played yesterday. ..and did what he's always done.  I don't think it's out of bounds to mention it.

Jones hasnt played for the Hoosiers in years.  What's the difference in your favor?  I can't find one.

It was an example, that's all.  If you actually go back through those games in all likelihood you'll see times when other players didn't help clinch a game or contributed to a loss.

To say he did "what he's always done" implies he never makes "clutch" free throws, which is completely false.  I gave an example of when he made two clutch free throws after missing one, in the same game.  I'll take my chances with a 90% FT shooter at the line, because "clutch" isn't a repeatable skill and one shot has no bearing on the next.

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine.  My experience shows me that Hulls is the most anti-clutch player I've ever seen.  Please don't tell me I'm not allowed to speak it less than 24 hours after another choke job.

Man. Things are testy lately.

My take:

Love Hulls, the student, the player, the guy, a representative of IUBB and all. But the way I see it, he was very shaky at end of game FTs. And shooting end of game too. Kind of froze up. I see the anti-clutch remark and understand it.

As a coach, you know this and work around it.

As a fan, you take it for what it is. I loved what he did for IUBB.
