The Great S%&* Storm of 2014

Recommended Posts

I figured we will need an entire thread just to keep track of whats going on in the next few days and weeks.....

So far we have Etherington, Vonleh, Marlin, and possibly Hollowell leaving, maybe more. Plus Fischer earlier in the year.....

Who's next? I only made this thread because im assuming more players will transfer, that way we can keep track on each player. I really hate to see any of these guys go.....thoughts?

Hollowell is probably going to be the biggest loss. And from the way he played, it's not a loss I'll lose sleep over

Ya i really had high hopes for him, he seemed so athletic at times, but he really just didnt produce the way many of us thought

Ugh, people who comment on JH's demeanor on the court. I couldn't give a crap less what his demeanor on the court was, if he produced that was all that should matter. Granted he hasn't been terribly effective most of his career. But still not everyone has to be overly emotional on the court

I was more referring to his bonehead mistakes and then shrugging his shoulders or looking lethargic. His body language reflected his play

Yeah, I'd say his FG% and turnover % are more worrisome than his demeanor. He's a terribly inefficient player.

True, but he's played outright lethargic at (most of the) times. He was inefficient and seemed to have no motor. You can have players who appear emotionless so long as they still appear to give an effort. Hollowell had neither the emotion or the drive to succeed.

YES. When people do this, it always reminds me of Royals fans and Carlos Beltran. In his first few years in the big leagues, any time Beltran struggled he would get hammered by fans and talk radio for his body language. People whined that he didn't show any emotion. It didn't look like he was hustling. Blah. Blah. Blah. It continued all the way into his last season with the team. Now, the Hall of Fame awaits his retirement.

Sorry, for the baseball reference. The same thing is true in both baseball and basketball.

Carlos produced though, that's the difference.

You forget, I watched him for two years in St. Louis. Some fans still got upset over his demeanor but even in his later years with a banged up knee he produced well.

Eventually, yes he did. He kept the same demeanor too.

Unfortunately CBB players don't have the luxury of long careers to develop, they only get 4(5). Jeremy has already used 2 of his and is yet to show significant improvement or investment in improvement. Both observational and anecdotal evidence suggests that his lethargic play on the court is a greater reflection of his commitment. Considering how IU has thrived and adored players who's motors exceed their talents, he's just not a proper fit. Hopefully he goes somewhere else and finds his fire. If not, it's an open scholarship and dead weight dropped for us.

So far JH has been a big disappointment. I used to be in the "potential" camp but I'm not even sure anymore that he actually has much potential. Regardless, if there really is potential there I hope he comes to realize it whether that be at IU or somewhere else.

Sure, maybe. But, perhaps it needs to be addressed just why and how Hollowell became dead weight. And why and how Etherington became dead weight. And Creek. And Abell.

Individually, there isn't great reason to care why any of those guys left. Taken collectively as a whole, the trend hurts us and it will continue to hurt us unless it is reversed. Let's say that Crean gets what appears to be his wish and we get Lee, Cunningham and Maten for next season. We would anticipate having one open scholarship for 2015, perhaps two if Yogi develops enough to go pro. That would be a very small class unless other players are pushed out to free up more scholarships. In a couple of years, we would yet again be talking about a lack of experience and needing to balance out recruiting classes.
