OT: Bruce Pearl being Bruce Pearl

His penalty period doesn't end until August. Not sure what that means about the summer and being with the team. The kids will be starting classes by the time he may even be able to meet his players for the first time

He coached at USI and Tennessee. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Not exactly tough competition in either league.

Not having one losing season in all those years of coaching is a BIG accomplishment. The man is a great coach. Was Tennessee basketball ever worth anything before Pearl got there?

Was anyone other than Florida or UK worth anything? He still got to play the easiest of the major conferences. We could have made the tourney if we played in the SEC this year, let alone back when he was coaching

The SEC barely has a pulse in basketball, the only two teams that are consistent are UK and Florida while Vandy is up and down.

I won't go on a war path for Bruce Pearl, but look at the program he took over. For arguments sake, when Tom Crean got Indiana for the first three years they were losing seasons (that was expected of course, with the state of the program he took over). Pearl took over Tennessee that had not been to the tourney in 5 years and the season he was hired took them to six straight tournaments.

He got TENNESSEE, a football school with no basketball tradition, up to 4th in national attendance in his first year. An increase of 7,436 per game. He took them to their first regular season championship in 8 years and the first number one ranking for the program. He got a complete bottom-dweller program up to #1 in the country.

I think you may underestimate how hard it is to be above .500

I think hes a great hire for a school like Auburn...

But I won't argue the topic. To each his own

The program he took over in Tennessee and the program Crean took over at IU are apples and oranges. They couldn't have been anymore different scenarios.

I think Pearl is a great salesman, but let's face it, he cheated then lied about it after turning in another program, then asked a recruit's parents to lie.(Aaron Craft) I understand people have lapses in judgment, and even lapses in integrity, but he showed both in BIG ways. Auburn could use a good cheerleader, and Pearl is a great cheerleader, but I wouldn't want him recruiting my child to play basketball for his program, knowing what is easily found public knowledge. In my opinion he is as sleazy as Sampson and maybe worse. I knew a school would pick him quickly, so many are desperate to be relevant, and now Auburn is noteworthy if for no other reason than hiring Pearl.
