DiPrimio article

Well, being from this area I can tell you he doesn't give two damns about IU.  He will continually write about the most emotional state college topic to gain hits.  When PU was good and we sucked, it was about PU and Painter.  During football it is Notre Dame.  Whatever the most emotional subject of the moment is, he writes about it.  It worked, he has more hits.  I am not saying his writing is completely wrong, but he did it to stir the emotions and create debate.  That way he gets more hits.  He knows the feeling of Hoosier fans and is playing off of that.  Hell, even Dakich didn't do that.  That should say something.  I do think he was right on in the scheduling department.  Glass schedules, but Crean gives him an idea of what he wants.  This schedule for the last few years is on Crean.  It is a joke and has been clear every year when the B1G starts we aren't ready.  I thought he could have taken him to task for actual in game coaching situations.  When you are losing, that becomes fair game.  This year there were many questionable situations, and nobody has really called Crean out on that.  I think if he actually dug deeper, it would have been a better article instead of one clearly intended to gain views.

How would he react though?  It seems like when someone has a criticism he gets defensive and fires back with some snide remark.  Just like when someone called in and asked about turnovers, he said "we haven't work on that at all" sarcastically but it was a fair question since they hadn't improved in that regard.  Even just recently when he made some PC/political BS tweet about the season and some fans fired back (probably shouldn't have but that's beside the point), and he sent another tweeted and ended it by saying don't respond he doesn't read it, well he pays some level of attention or he wouldn't have added that.

It seems like when he gets taken to task he gets defensive.

Crean has to understand after the year he had journalists are going to be critical of him.  If he gets pissy, they will in turn not hold anything back.  Journalists are typically reserved due to wanting to keep that relationship strong.  I find myself in the middle of both extremes.  I can see both sides to the constant arguments here.  I have my concerns in his coaching and it has nothing to do with what he runs.  It is his feel for the game that has him run what he does.  I feel he is out of tune, and that creates bad adjustments or lack thereof.  When he is winning, people will ask what more do we want?  When we are losing, people want his head because they have noticed this before and won in spite of them.  I don't think we won in spite of him, but I do feel he had a better feel for his previous players.  He was just not in tune with this team as much as they were not in tune with them.  That is my biggest issue with him heading into next year.  Mainly because Jordy, Wat, Vic, and Cody aren't walking out on that court anymore.  I want someone to approach him on that.  Because, that to me is something I have noticed but never seen asked.

Yeah, my criticisms of him aren't even really based on this year but cumulative things we've seen that I don't like and can no longer put it on the players.  How many times did we say we didn't utilize Noah enough or couldn't feed the post?  We said the same things with Cody the last two years, so it's the same problem with no improvement.  How many times have we seen our offense struggle the past few years in the half court because there's little to no movement and ball movement?  At first I was willing to think it'd be different when he had his players, but it's not.  How many times have we said we turn the ball over way too much?  Crean himself has said their goal is 10 or less, but he's never had a team average less than 13 in his entire career.  Even with his press conferences he'll speak in platitudes that sometimes make you wonder if he even saw the game, "the bench was too quiet" or "we need to learn to play with intent".  I didn't care for his comments after the season was over again pulling the PR/political coach speak, it's the end of an awful season just be frank and say "we failed, and these kinds of seasons aren't acceptable".

Like I tried explaining in another thread, my criticisms and my lack of faith aren't so much rooted in this one year (although it's a factor) but a cumulative effect of various issues we've seen over the course of his tenure.
