Ceiling For The Rest of The Season??

Recommended Posts

Admittedly, I pretty much gave up on the season after the Penn State game, but upon further review of the remaining schedule I'm trying to maintain some optimism. Winning at Wisconsin on Tuesday seems pretty unattainable with how hot they are right now. Good news is that after that the Hoosiers get 3 straight home games. I wouldn't exactly bet on them winning all 3, but given how the Hoosiers get up for big games it doesn't seem unreasonable. The last game is at Michigan, which I would definitely expect to lose. I think that 3-2 over the final 5 would be the best possible outcome, with all the wins coming in the home games.

That would put IU at 18-13 (8-10) with wins over Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, and Ohio State. Throw in Nebraska as a potential quality win if they can keep up this hot streak and that could be an NCAA worthy resume pending on the performance they show in the B1G tourney. Remember- the bubble is very weak!

I'm not saying I expect this outcome, but that it wouldn't totally shock me.

What do you guys think is the ceiling for this team the rest of the season?

We would have to get to 19 wins no matter who we beat now at home, because of how weak our pre-conference was, and how bad of losses we have had.  No way around it.  If we got to 18 wins before B1G tournament I would think we would need 2 wins in the tournament.  We have some good wins, but some equally very bad losses (and we have more of those than wins).

The ceiling seems to change game to game. We have a good win like Saturday with low turnover % and good defense, then the next game we turn the ball over 20+ times. There hasn't been any consistency, so my best guess is that the ceiling remains low. Maybe a win or two in the BTT, and then maybe in the NIT as well before bowing out. Without consistency, we won't string together enough quality games to do anything noteworthy.

The ceiling? There is no ceiling. We could win the conference tournament and kill everyone in the dance on the way to banner six.

Technically, it could still happen.

Realistically, Charlie is right though. NIT bound, I'm afraid.

I see it the same way the OP does.  Very little to no chance in road games, very possible with home games.  18-13 or 17-14 seems likely to me.  We could get 1 or 2 W's in the BTT.  Who knows with this team???  If they didn't drop the ball in the gimme's we would comfortably be in the dance. NW/Nebraska/Penn ST would of had us at 18-8 (8-5).  How mad does that make you?

At 18-13 I honestly think we would need to advance to Sunday in the BTT to secure a bid.  Maybe 20-14 would be good enough, I dunno.

Yeah man, it is iffy at best.  I wouldn't want to put our non-conference wins up against anyone else at 18 wins.  Usually 18 wins is a couple of top 20 wins on the road and a couple at home with a tough SOS.

They definitely dropped the ball with big leads vs Nebraska and PSU, but NW beat us in solid fashion at Assembly Hall if I remember correctly. Regardless, two extra conference wins would make a huge difference on our season.
