Anniversary of the infamous Bob Knight chair toss

Recommended Posts

On this day

On this date in 1985 Indiana coach Bob Knight was ejected five minutes into the Hoosiers' 72-63 loss to Purdue. Knight was ejected when he threw a chair across the court.

Knight, after two fouls called on his team, was hit with his first technical. While Purdue was shooting the technical, Knight picked up a chair from the bench area and threw it across the court, earning his second technical.

Knight would have fun with this famous incident later in life. He did a commercial with Applebees titled 'Retired Coaches' where he pokes fun at his chair toss.

This was the first IU game I ever attended. So excited to actually being in assembly hall playing our archival Purdue. We were running a little late sitting about 25 rows up behind our bench. We weren't there more than 5 minutes and Coach threw the chair. We ended up losing too.

The second time I ever saw an IU game at AH was November 21,1987. It was a exhibition game against the Soviet Union. Coach Knight pulled the team off the floor early in the 2nd half.

Not exactly a rabbits foot am I......

That little old lady has passed on now, but to the day she died she still said that Knight throwing her the chair was the single most chivalrous moment of her life. Interestingly enough, she said that Steve Eyl's short shorts that game, were the single most erotic moment of her life.

Ha, quit going to games…  Or on second thought keep going.  Sweet things happen when you go.  Crean needs a little emotion outside of the norm.

mdn82,
I am sorry to admit this but below is my first post on btown banners:
The first I heard of HMP's OWI was 7:13 AM on this board. Sadly, I could be the problem.

Like others on this board the downhill climb if you will started toward last few game of last year. Is it a Team chemistry issue? I like Coach Crean. Graduates players. Doesn't get the kids that get in trouble with the law. I think he is the right man at the right time. But the collapse in the PSU game shakes the foundation of the Hoosier Nation to its core. Here's hoping the Coaches can right the ship and punch our ticket with a BiG 10 tourney Championship! BEAT Purdue! Go Hoosiers!

My father was fighting at the base of Mt. Suribatchi when the flag was raised....He got shot twice on Iwo.

I fear that the appreciation for the contributions of the Greatest Generation is lost to all but those who were a part of or the children of them. My greatest appreciation and thanks to your father and all those who served with him in WWII.

I was going to enter this thread by making a joke about how this date in history introduced rope wire to Assembly Hall seating...

but I'm going to refrain from that and thank you for your father's service in WWII...

my oldest son is in the Marine Corps and I have a soft spot for veterans and servicemen...

thank you.
