My Take on the O.W.I. Arrest, the Purdue Loss, and How to Keep a Positive Attitude

Recommended Posts

"Cheer this group of young men on with the enthusiasm of a dog at a fire hydrant: take a whizz on it if you must, so long as you keep coming back with the same excitement."

That line truly made me laugh out loud.

As always, major kudos Doc.

Overcoming adversity and excelling is extraordinarily satisfying, and leaves a good taste that lasts much longer than any temporary disappointment.

Well said Doc, Hanner needs our support now more than ever. I love Indiana basketball and the the passion for the game at all levels. I respect UK, UNC, Kansas but nowhere does the game mean more than in the Hoosier State. Being a Hoosier in TarHeel country is not always easy, but I am proud of our team, and players. Go HOOSIERS!

The lure of alcohol lurks on all college campuses.
There are plenty of young minds that fall victim to the temptation without knowing the responsibility it takes to consume it.
I don’t drink. I never have. I cannot pretend to know the temptation that surrounds its consumption.
It is more prevalent than anyone wants to talk about; that is, until someone is thrust into the spotlight after an unlawful act that surrounds it.
Until then, it’s the ugly girlfriend that you hang out with in your apartment because you’re afraid of what someone will say when they see you two together.
As an Anesthesiologist, I have had my nights and weekends interrupted numerous times by a victim or driver that consumed too much alcohol. I have seen the results, and it’s not pretty.
To say boys will be boys is irresponsible and in a way gives a free pass.

What if it were Yogi out that night?

I have been posed with this question.
As a parent, my first thought would be: he should take comfort in the fact that he is under police “protection” because what I would want to do to him would probably land me in the cell next to his.
Then the emotion would shift from anger to pity.
I’d think about how what he will go through will be much worse than anything I have to offer. It will follow him for the rest of his college career no doubt.
But I would encourage him to put a positive spin on a negative situation. This one incident does not have to define him.
His goal should be showing his family, his coaches, his teammates, and his fans that he can be trusted to represent the University in a positive light.
Hanner and the team will recover from this

Fortunately, Hanner Mosquera-Perea hurt nothing more than his pride that night.
It in no way reflects his character.
Hanner, you may be down, but you’re not out. Take the punishment, the criticism, the staring eyes, and the whispers behind your back like a man.
Learn from it and then move on.
Let those without fault cast the first stone.
This incident does not make or break our team. Our problems on the court started long before this.
Dan Dakich repeatedly saying that the team was affected by it in some roundabout way just isn’t true.
Some say it gives a hint into the disarray that is internally present on this team. I tell you now: this in no way represents the character of this team.
Do not let the transgression of one, speak for many.
The worst loss of the season

As I settled into my less than ideal seat assignment at Mackey Arena, I was deafened by the loving chants of the Purdue students … who sing in unison “IU sucks!” It envelopes the building.
A school that churns out top engineers and this is their best effort at intimidation?
I quietly thanked the fans for their energy because it fueled me. I hoped that it would fuel the players of the IU team too, and it seemed to do just that in the first half of this always much-anticipated rivalry game.
The second half was another story.
I began to appreciate my seat, which was neatly tucked behind the media bench. I couldn’t see a thing, and I didn’t want to.

Looks like the Twitter tweet that hanner and yogi were out drinking is looking more plausible and she should have possibly seen this coming. I agree nobody is without fault but the leader of one of the most historic basketball programs in the nation has to b a lot smarter than this

Most of us would have gave r lives up to have the talent to b where he is and in this position and its sad to see he hadn't accepted the responsibility that comes with it. I agree I would have been playing for knight and would have been scared to pull something like this but crean mayby not lol
