Indiana @ Purdue Post Game Thread

Crean stating that the team can't let the negativity get to them...or creep into the locker room...

right or wrong, he's feeling a little warmth at this point...

next home game should be interesting when things don't go well...or if things don't go well...I shouldn't assume...

I don't really see Noah coming back.  Even if he does the only backup for him is Hanner.  Teams will just try to get Noah in foul trouble, then take their chances with Hanner.  Blackmon will just be a freshman, and as good as he is he will probably need time to adjust.  Williams has A LOT of work to do to be a basketball player, a whole lot.

Will next year be better, it should be.  People are talking like next year will compete for the title, and I just don't see it.
I hear a lot of talk about Noah going pro next year due to potentially being a high lottery pick. I wonder, has this season at IU, with the poor quality of basketball being played here, harmed his lottery pick status? Even if it drops him like a stone, does he come back for another season of this?
Noah is all potential right now, and this team won't hurt his stock. Teams are willing to wait for his development because he couldn't play (play well) in the NBA right now, but has the body and potential to be a star.

I just don't see Vonleh going pro. He will get ate up, if he goes to the NBA.

There will be no title, not as long as Tom Crean is the coach making horrible decisions. Does anyone remember experiencing panic attacks every time he subbed in Tom Pritchard a few years ago?   If people went back over the last 3 years and looked and to see how many times we lost because of his subbing practices they would be sick!
Obviously but how is he not ready?
Noah isn't very good on offense right now. Poor at getting position, has one post move that isn't that good, and isn't a very good passer. He's still learning how to play defense too. What helps him in college is the fact that he's just bigger than most. He has all the makings of a potential future star, however, and won't need to necessarily "be ready." Edit: I don't think Vonleh will leave. Unlike Cody, Noah can actually raise his stock (There's no way Zeller should've gone at four. He's incredibly lucky MJ is bad at drafting.) and I believe he's the type of player that wants to be more "ready." He knows he has a lot to work on. A second year would do him a lot of good, on and off the court. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Being ready is over-rated.  If a kid is a lock for the lottery, the sooner he gets drafted the sooner he gets to work with pro coaches and also the sooner his transition from that initial rookie contract to his first free agent season occurs.  NBA has a rookie salary structure in place so that moving up or down in the lottery isn't that significant of a financial impact.  How much more ready was Cody by staying in school for another year?  I'd argue not that much.  He did happen to get drafted much higher than expected but going to the Bobcats is probably more of a curse than a blessing and I don't think his being drafted that high had anything to do with being at IU an extra year.

Definitely way too much substituting...what ever happened to just resting the starters, then putting them back in as soon as possible?

I may be the only one to think this but I don't think he really got any better from year one to year two

I've criticized Tom Crean plenty, so I feel the need to at least be fair here.  At the time Pritchard was pretty much the only big man, or pretty much the only backup depending if we had Cody or not.  Cody couldn't play 40 minutes, so Pritchard would have to play some.  He even went hard after another big, Garrett Green, so Cody could play his natural position at the 4.

I have serious doubts on Crean's ability to win a banner here, I'm not sure he'll even take us to the Final Four, and his substitution patterns drive me crazy.  So I'll agree somewhat on those points.

I think another year of just playing and learning will help him get better. Whether that's here or the NBA is his decision though.
