Fred Glass interview

Recommended Posts

Alex Bozich tweeted out a link to an interview Indiana AD Fred Glass put out today. Don't know how many heard it, so I'll post it here: http://media.1070thefan.com/Podcasts/2161/Glass4512227328.mp3.

Glass is a staunch defender of Crean. He thinks some criticism goes too far and can be uninformed. Also believes Crean is an "elite coach" and encourages fans to "put away the pitchforks and torches."

"Mr. Glass, how can you call Crean an 'elite' coach when his track record is very similar to Mike Davis?"

"Ummm, well, ummmmmmmmmmmmm..."

"Mr. Glass, how can you justify a 14 million dollar buyout after just one Sweet 16?"

"Cocaine is a hell of a drug"

Seriously, even the biggest supporters of Crean have to admit calling him an "elite coach" is complete BS.

Honestly, depends on his definition as a coach.  A coach to him, at IU, could mean a manager of an extremely popular team who gets the players to go to class.  He gets record donations due to them being on the same page.  A coach to an AD is far more than X's and O's, especially the basketball coach at IU.  That part is only for the fans.  If X's and O's were all it took, RMK would still be here.  Until we stop putting fans in the stadium or it is downright terrible, he will like Crean.

Maybe an elite recruiter but calling him an elite coach is like saying coach k doesn't dye his hair

I don't know I read something online one time where everyone thought he was coloring it or was wearing a tupe. They even had a hair dye specialist analyze it and everyone came to the conclusion he is just aging gracefully and isn't dying it.

I wouldn't even call Crean an elite recruiter.

He made sure to point out Indiana hasn't been really good the past "twenty years" until Crean just brought back the Big Ten championship.

Crean's seat shouldn't be hot this season.

I would. The man can get whoever he wants. He just chooses to continuously recruit athlete wings that can't shoot.

Interesting it is like trying to explain Crean's energy drink.

I think he's good, but not elite. John Calipari is elite. Tom Crean is not.
