(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley

Recommended Posts

Jobe was not a hit. Abel was a miss as well. So were Story and Nick Williams. Roth and Etherington were misses as well. I guess while i'm at it, Fisher, Patterson and Jurkin were misses too.

Tijan Jobe was absolutely a hit if you define "hit" as..."I'm glad he took up a scholly for the time he was on the team". Under that definition:

Fischer was a big miss.

Abell was an in-betweener.

Patterson never took up a scholly; he was just a recruit when it was all said and done.

Let's break that down

Hits:

CWat

Creek

Oladipo

Roth

Zeller

Hulls

Williams

Robinson

Vonleh

Sheehey

Blackmon

Johnson

Yogi

Devin Davis

Tijan Jobe

Misses:

Capobianco

Bawa Muniru

Guy

Jurkin

HMP

Hollowell

Hartman

The sample size with Hartman is awfully small to put him in either category, and his highlights aren't much different from Hoetzel's.

Obviously a humorous add to the list.

In state recruits shouldn't be wins they should be locks an I could go thru a long list of players tht we have missed out on, what I'm saying is tht if a one in done player is a in state kid bring him in but if we have to go to the east coast to get it done leave it alone does no good for r program. We have all the talent here in the state of indiana to compete with the top programs. An as far as creans recruiting he has done a decent job, but we need players tht r going to stay more than a year cause crean system doesn't work with one an done players an tht said I think it's going to get harder an harder for crean to recruit look what's already happening
Getting one Hoosier a year out of 5 or 6 kids a year r legit players for our program.

Simple minded responses to complicted situtions rarely works.

Serious question cause I wsnt alive for it.. When hs IU had the state on lockdown? I understand at one point that if you were a top notch in state recruit you should go to IU. I can't recall when this happened though.
Crean lands McD's All Stars and people are complaining that he needs to recruit 3 and 4 year guys, then he lands 3 and 4 year guys and people will complain that he's not landing McD's All Stars. It's no win.

Crean isn't the greatest in-game coach, but he has shown the ability to bring in talent.. If you want to knock anything, knock him for making questionable substitution calls and rotating 10-12 guys in any given game. I'd get on board with that.

As far as Josh Cunningham, I'm predicting he's a Hoosier next season.
half the people in here will be upset if he commits because then they won't be able to rip on Crean for losing him lol. I hope you're right. I'd like to start getting some solid 4 year players.

Love how you laid that out there. So true.

FWIW, the Crystal Ball says he will be a Hoosier as well, by a large margin. And usually when it's that large of a margin this close to the date of the announcement, it's a good sign (yes there are exceptions).

I say Crean is a good but not great recruiter because there is more to recruiting than getting good players to sign on the dotted line.  There's class balance and there is roster construction too.  Classes haven't been balanced since he got here leading to the youth this year, and poor roster construction bit us in the arse this year too.  Factoring in everything I why I say he's good but not great.

So when you look at the list do you come away thinking wow, great recruiter? Great being the key word. I do not. I do not think he is a lousy recruiter but looking at your list I say he has done a good job. I meant to quote and include Camp Creans list. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I don't know who follows me on Twitter, but I just laid out some interesting stats regarding McDAA's in the last four years. The only coaches to land 1+ in each of last four years are Calipari, Roy Williams, Coach K and Crean. In that time (3 seasons, 4th is next year), Crean has 4 NCAAT wins. That's good for 3rd on the list, ahead of Coach K's 2. Also, when you break it down by NCAA Tournament wins per McDAA recruited, Crean is way ahead with 1.333 wins per Burger Boy. Coach K the worst with less than half a win. Even Calpari has more Burgers than NCAAT wins, despite winning 1 NC and having 1 NC Runner Up.

Then again, if you extend it back a few more years Crean falls off the map. But it was tough recruiting Indiana when he first got here and we don't care about Marquette years, so this data really only leaves off 2-3 season when IU was the worst it has ever been.

Patterson c-blocked Gary Harris.  Just wishful thinking that we could have recruited Gary instead of Ron.

Ron Patterson was the worst recruiting blunder Crean has ever had. They knew his grades were bad. They knew he had an attitude. Just read his tweets when IU played Cuse last season. He was a punk and him not being able to pass 2 freaking summer school classes with tutors available proved it.

He wasn't being a smart ash about it. I am with him in the fact that I am young enough to not remember when the state was locked down. Earliest memories are Guyton but I didn't comprehend much more than him being the man. What he was asking was roughly the year that it quit happening where we landed top 2-3 players in Indiana/surrounding states?
