(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

Interesting article that was published yesterday... It's about whether he would choose to play for Australia or Canada in the Olympics/world cups.  Still, it makes me think that the idea of him going the international route instead of college is very real.

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/apr/05/boomers-boost-as-nba-prodigy-thon-maker-declares-intentions

- "Sudanese-born Thon Maker asserts aspiration to play for Australia"

- "One of the world’s most exciting basketball prospects, 216cm tall Thon Maker, says he wants to play for Australia."

- ""As of right now I’m doing everything I can to play for Australia," Maker told sports website tipofthetower.com."

Isn't the basketball academy he's attending a big joke though? That seems like an eligibility issue right off the bat.

That's what I thought?? Not one of your most heralded ones anyway? Not for this caliber of player anyway

Thanks. Though the real question becomes is a High School diploma a minimum for NBA consideration...

That I'm not sure of. Mine was only speculation on reading some Thon articles in the past.

What I'm saying is he can graduate high school without reclassifying. You don't have to be in a certain class to graduate high school.

Only reason you reclassify is for college athletics.

Oh...I thought you meant go overseas regardless of graduating.

To that I would say maybe they're reclassifying just in case Thon meets NCAA requirements. If not, no biggy they can still go pro for a year or do a grad-year at Orangeville. Just keeping that door open?

I don't see why anyone would go overseas. Look at Emmanuel Mudiay, he is almost forgotten now. Sure he'll be a high pick because of his HS career, but if you wanna go overseas and get paid, you'll get paid a lot more in one year if you go to college. My point, Thon go to IU.

I don't know about that. 1.2 million over one year is a pretty nice start to your career.

Wow, didn't k ow Mudiay is being paid that much. But if anyone posted this already, I will again. I do not think he will head overseas because he values academics and because of his interview with peegs.
