Bears fans....what are your thoughts?
Not a Bears fan, but I think it's a good deal. There's no better options available, and Cutler is a solid starting QB.
How about on their bench? McCown out played Cutler big time. I'm not saying McCown is a real option but cutler is not worth that money and is overrated.

You don't follow the NFL very closely if you think McCown is a better option. Theres a reason he was coaching High School football a year ago.

First of all, Yeah McCown only threw one interception in the games he played in. Thats great, but he still went 3-3 as a starter. Next, he faced some of the worst, if not the worst pass defenses in the league. (Dallas, Washington, Vikings, Green Bay, St. Louis)...the only decent one was the Ravens who are mediocre at best. Not to mention McCown is 5 years older than Cutler, thats a huge difference when it comes to QB's.

Bears fans understand that locking up a quarterback long-term is nothing but a win for us. Do you realize how many QB's we had over the last 25+ years? Yeah, take a look. Its disgusting. This contract gives us some stability. We have some of the best weapons in the league right now on offense in Forte, Brandon Marshall, and Alshon Jeffery. If our defense wasn't so horrendous and gave up 30 points a game we would be playoff bound right now.

When it comes to Cutlers contract, it really isn't that huge. It all comes down to guaranteed money, which yeah he's guaranteed $50 million but look at the other recent contracts for QB's over the last few years. This is how the NFL is these days.

Lastly, there wasn't any other options to go to for a QB besides going for one in the draft, which makes absolutely no sense for the Bears right now when we need to draft players on the defensive side of the ball.

I'm not even going to read past the first sentence because you completely missed what I said. I even said McCown wasn't a real option in what I put. I also said that McCown outplayed Cutler. I watch and follow the NFL very closely. I'd be willing to bet I know more about it then a vast majority on here likely including yourself. My point is if Culter can't outplay McCown them how can you justify paying him that or him being the option at QB. Cutler never will the the real option. He's just good enough to disappoint you.

Well you need to keep reading then because I stated my reasons for keeping Cutler. So you're saying McCown is better than Cutler due to a 6 game stretch against the worst defenses in the league? You're going off a pretty small sample size for someone who knows football as much as you do apparently.

I think as a Bears fan it shows they are going for it.  Every player from the offense is coming back.  I would be willing to bet McCown is coming back if he isn't retiring.  As a player, the weapons believe in Jay.  The way the contract is set up gave them the flexibility to make moves on the defense.  I would assume they are releasing Peppers due to the cap hit they would take.  Melton is a long shot, but may be cheaper due to the injury and recent arrest.  Ratliff is interesting due to how he played down the stretch.  They also signed Jennings, but wouldn't be surprised if they went Corner or Safety in the 1st round.  Everyone keeps saying d-line or corner.  I think there are enough players out there we could find on the d-line in FA.  Sounds like you will see the Bears very active in FA on the Defensive side of the ball.  Emery built that o-line and got other pieces in one year.  I think he can do the same on the D side in 2.  For Jay, that contract is as good as 3-4 years if he doesn't perform.  That is their window anyway with Marshall, Forte, Briggs, Jennings, and Bennett.  That is why I think its a smart move.

He did if you think otherwise you're nuts. Never did I say he's a better player, again I said he played better. Did he not this season? Saying look at the bench is a backhanded insult to Cutler. Cutler sucks period. The bears won't go to or win a superbowl with Cutler. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I live in Chicago but not a bears fan. Nobody likes this deal. At first people thought it was a joke.

Saying I think you can't read is a d!*¥ move so I'm gonna go ahead and apologize for that. I can't say now. I don't know who will be free agents for sure. I'd do my due diligence and see what's on the market before making a decision. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

It's not necessarily true that they can't win a Super Bowl with Cutler, and I'm not a Bears fan and can't stand Cutler.  Trent Dilfer won one, and so did Joe Flacco.

I wouldn't go that far.  I have seen plenty of people happy over it.  Only one of these mega-deals has actually been played out I remember hearing this year.  If I am not completely nuts, I am thinking it was Ben Rapelisberger.  This is a deal for a window.  We won't draft high enough over the next couple of years to get a stud QB.  Its not my money.  I am a Bears fan.  I understand why they did it.  Emery does things his way.  So far, he hasn't been wrong often.  Hopefully this is one of those things.

Bears got to one with Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton.  I think Cutler could do fine in that argument lol.  I agree with you there.

Yeah, you don't have to be a particularly good QB to make or win one.  Heck sometimes great QBs win it and don't play well during the entire playoffs, Peyton Manning won it but threw 7 INTs to just 3 TDs during the playoffs with 1 and 1 in the SB.

No point in arguing with that dude, Dalton, he'll resort to name calling soon...
