Mitch McGary out indefinitely

Should've left last year

To be an injured late first round draft pick without a guaranteed contract, and NO chance at a college degree?

That sounds like University of Kentucky logic.

I'd rather have my kid stay back, get a Michigan degree, and have some life skills toward his future.

This is exactly why young players SHOULD stay in college!

A degree from Michigan won't...

No, a degree from UM is really good.  That rookie contract will probably be more than IF he gets a 4 year degree at UM though.  He could have came back to UM on that contract.  Easy in hindsight, but it sucks for the kid.  He had really turned his life around from Indiana High School to Prep School to UM.

When they leave after only one year, they very seldom come back for the degree.

Agreed.  With his past it is not a lock that he was staying 4 years anyway.  He was trying to improve his stock.  People thought it was nuts when he didn't come out last year, because that would keep him 3 years.  He would have been a lottery pick last year.  Hard to get back to that.

If I remember correctly, I think he was projected a mid-first rounder, not much behind Cody Zeller.

He was at an astronomically idiotic (if that makes sense) high spot in mock drafts. More or less based off of those couple of tournament games.

Yes. NBA scouts saw what he did in the tournament, threw out the rest of the season and assumed he was going to be special. Also helped that last year's draft was really weak

I believe that McGary's post-tournament buzz would not necessarily have equaled his June draft spot. Cody certainly gained a lot of ground post-tourney, and McGary was already starting to have back troubles before this season. There's not a high likelihood he would have been a lottery pick.
