Indiana vs. Oakland Post-Game Thread

Troy dives into the stands with a few seconds to go. Limped off the court. Gotta keep perspective in mind Troy.

I can't blame Troy AT ALL here cause he should not have been on the floor in the first place. I could understand if it was Stan, Luke, Collin or anybody else that needs experience but Troy has started every game. At one point last game against NF CTC had all 5 starters on with like 6 minutes left which is just flat out WRONG. He did the same things with the likes of Cody, Vic, C-Wat, and he just played them late in games against cupcakes.

Assuming that your premise of he shouldn't have been on the court is true, what does that have to do with a player realizing the situation and playing appropriately? It's great to see him hustle but you have to do it under control. I'm not chastising him for it, just saying it's one of those things that some young players need to learn.

He shouldn't have been on the court.  That said, he has to understand he can't do that.  I am not a fan of Crean keeping the starters in up 30 against Oakland.  Bad on both of them.

I wish I could have seen the play, left at the under 4 timeout.

Want my opinion? Will Sheehey was the worst player on the court tonight. I cannot wait for next year, simply because of him. He has so much talent, but pretty much wastes it with inconsistent play.

I wouldn't say he was the worst player on the court.  He shut down their best player all night.  Offensively he is nonexistent.

Yes he "shut down" their best player all night. 75% of possessions, they screened Bader's man to get Sheehey off of him. He forces shots, goes up weak when he gets it down low, and is completely lost whenever he is on the court. I'm ready for him to take the 6th man role back. Gordon deserves a start anyway.

This is not a bash on Will at all. I love his game, but it is time for him to sit. put Evan in at the 2 and we're set. Then.......when Luke gets fully healthy and his college legs under him, you can have a Yogi, Troy, Hollowell, Noah, Fischer lineup or Yogi, Evan, Troy, Noah, Fischer. That way you will have 2 solid/experienced players coming off the bench regardless whether you start Hollowell or Gordon. Plus Noah can venture out from the lane and show us even more faces of his game.

Great showing by Evan. I think that he deserves a start against the Irish.

Sheehey needs to be a leader at both ends of the court. If he does not average 10+ ppg, it will be a long Big 10 season.

If they don't get the TOs under control, it will be even longer.

I continue to be impressed with Luke. I think that he will be a solid player.

Sheehey had 8 rebounds and played excellent defense.  Why must we bash someone when they don't score points?  Not every player is going to score in double figures every game.  Sheehey took only 5 shots, if he would have jacked up 10+ shots and only had a few points that might be a different issue.  I'm good with Sheehey's game.  He'll be alright.

We bash him because he turns the ball over way too much, gets stuffed by the rim at least once per game, is an awful shooter (FTs included).

For once, I have to agree with you Charlie. He's weak. I don't care if he played good defense or got rebounds or whatever. He was supposed to be our driving force on offense this year, but he's not worth a crap. The crowd wanted Sheehey out of the game by the way they reacted to each shot that got stuffed at the rim. He needs a spot on the bench.

Will Sheehey seems to be acting more as an assistant coach than player right now. If he can turn back into player first mode come conference play, then he'll be fine and we'll all love Will again.

I'm not one of Sheehey's biggest fans, and I never have been. He's doing a good job, however, teaching this team and that may be more valuable right now than a good game against the likes of Oakland.

I see where you're coming from, but he better step it up for Saturday. I don't really mind if he doesn't play well against a cupcake,  but when it comes to the big game, especially in B1G play, I'm expecting much more from him.

Add one more to Charlie's list!

Jeremy,

Yogi,

Hanner,

WIll

I also assume that he doesn't think PJ, Collin, or Austin are ready for prime time. IU Charlie is gonna be rooting for only two or three rotation Hoosiers that he thinks are worth his time pretty soon.

I agree. I am a big fan of his and it has always been the other things he brings. Even if he never develops into a go to scorer he brings attitude, defense, rebounding, and teaching/leadership.... for those reasons he deserves to start and play many minutes. My only concern is that he is letting some of his athleticism go to waste on the offensive side. When he drives or gets the ball down low he can jump so he needs to start raising up and putting it in the basket with some authority.

Other takeaways from this game:

1.) Hanner really needs to work on his hands... some very nice passes that would set up easy scores and he consistently bobbles the catch giving the defense time to react or completely fumbles it into a turnover.

2.) Hollowell needs to come off the bench, he is not a starter. Over the past 2 games Evan has shown that he deserves that role. I hope CTC realizes it.

3.) 16 turnover is too many to win any big games (although a few of those came at the end with bench players that don't get much PT)

4.) Coach having the starters in that late in a blowout game is always a mistake. There is nothing they can learn in that situation and you open up the possibility of injuries.

**** I don't blame Troy at all.... some say he should control it with time and score, but to me if you are on the floor you need to be playing hard.... all out all the time.... it is NEVER ok to take a play off if you are on the floor!!!!!
