Not exactly the Christmas present our wrestling program wanted.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Indiana University wrestler celebrating his 21st birthday ended the night in jail after police said he was found urinating in public and then soiled himself during a brief struggle.  Newly 21-year-old Kyle Luigs of Evansville was arrested in the early morning hours Christmas Eve on the following preliminary charges:

resisting law enforcement

public intoxication

indecent exposure

Officers were called to the Thorntons gas station on North St. Joseph Avenue for a report of a person down, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Evansville Police Department.  There, they allegedly found Luigs staggering and urinating in the grass.  The man allegedly ran off when an officer told him to stop. He was tackled by another officer and placed into custody after a brief struggle.

Luigs reportedly told police he soiled himself during the fight. He said he'd been drinking all night to celebrate his 21st birthday.  The party was over when he was booked into Vanderburgh County's jail around 2:45 a.m Tuesday. He was released shortly before 11:45 a.m. after posting a $200 bond.

Court records show Luigs was accused last year of underage alcohol consumption, but the charge was dismissed after he successfully completed a diversion program.

Luigs, a redshirt sophomore at IU, finished the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 19-16, according to statistics on a university website.

A call to the Indiana University Athletics Department wasn't immediately returned.
