CHARLESTON, S.C. ––– Indiana Wrestling opened its 2023-24 campaign at The Battle at The Citadel tournament on Sunday in McAlister Fieldhouse.

The Hoosiers took first place in the tournament with 118.5 points and three individual champions winning their weight class' bracket, along with seven total Indiana wrestlers placing.

Indiana's Dan Fongaro (141), No. 6 Graham Rooks (149) and Gabe Sollars (197) each won the bracket for their weight class. Tyler Lillard (165) took second place while No. 22 Cayden Rooks (133), Nico Bolivar (157) and Roman Rogotzke (184) each finished in third.

Indiana entered 16 total wrestlers in the tournament, and they faced opponents from The Citadel, American, Appalachian State, Drexel and George Mason.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana Wrestling is set to begin their dual schedule this Friday with the team's home-opening match vs. Rider at 6 p.m. in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

This will be the second year in a row that Indiana wrestles a dual in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Last year, Indiana defeated No. 23 Princeton, 22-13, in the first dual in the historic venue since 2010.

Friday's match, like all home events for Indiana Wrestling, is free admission with first-come, first-served access to seating.

CITADEL SUCCESS:
-Indiana Wrestling began their season last weekend at The Battle at The Citadel invitational tournament on Sunday, Nov. 5.

FINAL: IU 22, Purdue 9

IU wrestling beats Purdue for the second-straight season, and this time, it didn’t have to come down to the wire.  The Hoosiers sealed the victory with Roman Rogotzke’s sudden victory at 184.

They do. My brother-in-law used to be an asst. coach a few years ago there.

Crown Point and Brownsburg are 2 other programs IU need to tap into. Angel being a region rat from that area will hopefully pay dividends.

Love to see the recognition for this group, my 8 y/o wrestles with the Brownsburg Club and ran into Brayton Lee last year and he couldn't have been nicer.  He spoke to the elementary aged kiddos for a good 10 minutes and shared words of encouragement.  Needless to say I was thrilled when he transferred to B'ton and hope he makes a run in the B1G tourney.
