(2017) PG Paul Scruggs to Xavier

Recommended Posts

Article by Gregg Doyel in the Indy Star on Scruggs' decision.    "...  Scruggs is transferring to a school that didn’t exist until three years ago. For another, Prolific Prep isn’t a school at all. It’s a basketball team that sends its players to a prominent Catholic school in Napa, Justin-Siena High School."

BIzarro!  This also stood out to me.

Scruggs stayed in Napa. He’s taking classes at a Catholic school, living with a host family and playing basketball for a P.O. box. I wonder how many people really know why Paul Scruggs is out there. I wonder if Paul Scruggs is among them.

This is trash. Following recruiting is starting to make me hate college basketball.

I think they need to level the playing field with recruiting. Indiana isn't willing to get as dirty as other teams. We won't win certain recruits because of it.

And it ticks me off.

Once you kind of let it go and make peace with it, it becomes quite entertaining.  I wish IU could pick the top instate players every year before casting the rest off out of B1G country.  However, it's not reality and the reality is there are more avenues now to "pay" for a recruit than there was 20 years ago.  I hate to say it but I think it'll continue to get dirtier before it gets cleaned up.  This is another reason why I chuckle when those few say Crean does a terrible job recruiting Indiana.  I'm in no way saying IU is the cleanest program though.

Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Xavier.

Was his list I think. Guess this would favor Kansas.

Greg Doyle nails it:

"For one thing, Scruggs is transferring to a school that didn’t exist three years ago. For another, Prolific Prep isn’t a school at all. It’s a basketball team that sends its players to a Catholic school in Napa, Justin-Siena High School.

Prolific Prep has a website and a Twitter page, but no physical address.

You hear me? Paul Scruggs just transferred to a P.O. box."

So for what's it worth I have a buddy in Napa who's kids go to the catholic school mentioned in the article. Per him it's a good school and the players actually have to go to class, get good grades, etc.

Still strange to me that he did this after school started but maybe he really didn't want to deal with the drama. To me it's sad that he is going to miss out on his senior year.
