Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 15, 2025 Posted May 15, 2025 Raoul reports Indiana is the latest program to offer 2027 WBB prospect Sydney Savoury, 6-0 SG/W, Belleville HS (MI), her 10th Big Ten offer. She attends Belleville HS in Belleville, MI, which is located along I-94 between Ypsilanti and Romulus, MI. https://wrif.com/2025/03/19/bellevilles-sydney-savoury-honored-as-2024-2025-gatorade-michigan-girls-basketball-player-of-the-year/ Gatorade POY 24-25 LamarCheeks and mamasa 2 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Hard to find any kind of regular info but did watch 2 recent games both of which were total routs with running clocks starting with the opening of the 3rd Q. First was a 93-18 win over Fordson where Savoury had 26p, 1r, 1a, 7s, 0b, 0t in 19 min. 10-12 FG, 3-5 on 3s, 3-3 FT. Second game an 80-20 win over Franklin. 17p, 3r, 8a, 5s, 1b, 0t in 13 min. 7-13 FG, 1-5 on 3s, 2-2 FT. Despite the level of the competition, Savoury is clearly a very good ballplayer. Very quick hands and doesn't take bad shots. Several more games will be streamed over the next month so maybe get a better idea of what she can do when facing better competition. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Last night her team won 74-45. 23p, 8r, 4a, 7s, 0b, 2t 7-19 FG, 0-7 on 3, 9-9 FT. She really struggled in the 1st half with just 8p on 2-8 FG and 4-4 FT. Halftime score 37-27. She took the game over in the 3rd Q scoring 9p, 4r, 3a, 4s and her team had a 26-point lead. Only shots she missed in the 2nd half were 3-pt attempts and it was noticeable they were all short hitting the front of the rim. She is very athletic and can get into the lane for the mid-range shot similar to what Grace Berger could do. No idea what our status is with respect to her recruitment but she's a ballplayer. Quote
TTT Posted January 14 Posted January 14 For IU Ladies this would be a top get…..but can IU Ladies get? 5 stars at 97….is going to be stiff competition vs future legitimacy. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Sign me up for a membership in the Sydney Savoury fan club. Last night played 21 min: 25p, 7r, 3a, 10s, 0b, 3t. 8-13 FG, 1-2 on 3s; 8-10 FT. She also drew 6 fouls. She landed awkwardly with 5:43 left and right after that the stream of the game quit but I doubt she returned as Belleville led 73-36 at that point. Side note: Michigan high school bball really needs a mercy rule. To me, she's deceptively quick and many of her steals she simply takes the ball away from the dribbler and races down for a layup. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Belleville (10-0) with an 87-24 romp over Dearborn (3-7). Interesting these teams in Michigan have played just 9 games and in Indiana we're having girls sectional drawings this coming Sunday. Again in this game Savoury was clearly the best player on the court. Plays under control and rarely makes wild drives to the basket ending with flings in the general direction of the rim. 24p, 4r, 2a, 3s, 0b, 0t in less than 18 min. on the floor. It was 52-10 at the half and she played less than 4 min. into the 3rd Q. Running clock the entire 2nd half and the refs basically just put their whistles in their pockets and started making dinner reservations on their cell phones. The disparity in the talent level of high school girls basketball really shows up when you look at scores of previous games. As an example, some of Belleville's previous 10 wins: 78-37 over Berea-Midpark 103-3 over Glenn 76-33 over Mumford 80-20 over Franklin 93-18 over Fordson Their narrowest winning margin has been 12 points. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 I'm pretty certain it is. At least, it's not a typo on my part. HoosierHoopster 1 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 I don't think I've ever witnessed a team as inept as the Churchill girls team. Belleville with a 98-17 win mercifully played with a running clock the entire second half. If the normal 35-point mercy rule had been in effect after 1Q, it would have kicked in as Belleville led 39-2. Savoury 25p, 24, 4a, 3s in about 16 min. of court time. She could easily have scored another 10+ points with open drives to the basket but readily shared the ball. I wish I understood how schedules were arranged in some of the other states I've watched given the number of outright routs that take place. Belleville is now 11-0 but take this game and the 5 below and 6 of the 11 have been no competition at all. Are these teams in the same conference and that's why they place each other? Are budgets that tight that travel has to be limited and thus teams play based on proximity without regard to the quality of the opponent? It's a mystery to me and it's not limited to just Belleville in Michigan. Several of our targets located in other states report the same kinds of results. 78-37 over Berea-Midpark 103-3 over Glenn 76-33 over Mumford 80-20 over Franklin 93-18 over Fordson Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Caught up with a couple of Savoury's recent games. On the 6th, Belleville defeated Stevenson 75-42. Savoury finished with 38p, 9r, 3a, 6s, 1b, 0t. On the 10th, Belleville defeated Wayne Memorial 56-54 in a great game between two really good teams and remains undefeated on the season. Belleville led 32-25 at the half but the 3rd Q was all Wayne and they led 43-41 at the end of the Q. Savoury saved her best for the 4th with 11p, 3r and a steal. She finished with 33p, 6r, 0a, 2s, 0b, 4t. In the Stevenson game she drew 8 fouls and drew 10 in the Wayne Memorial game. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Tuesday at 11:24 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:24 PM Belleville avenged its only regular season loss to Howell by defeating Howell 58-44 in a regional final. Savoury picked up 2 1st Q fouls and sat out a good portion of the half and had just 4 points at the break. In the 2nd half she was pretty much unstoppable scoring 18 pts - 11 in the 3rd Q. She finished with 22p, 5r, 5a, 2s, 1b, 1t. Howell's star player Lillie Williams was offered by IU in October '23 when she was being home schooled. She is a Michigan State commit. She's very tall and had a number of blocks but certainly didn't dominate the boards. She was also shot less than 50% FG in this game missing a significant number of shots at the rim and she also fouled out. Quote
