Did Florida or UConn fire their coaches after their first year or two? Put them on any kind of hot seat?

You're kind of making my point.

Who has stated he should be fired after one year?  You have disingenuously avoided that question yet again…

I see plenty of people stating that making the tourney the first year is their minimum expectation, but I don't see anyone stating that the consequence for not doing so should be to fire Devries after one year.

Because nobody on this board has the authority to do so lol.

But I've read plenty of posts, today alone, that suggest the process should begin in the event the tournament is missed next year. You don't have to outright say it to imply it, Stu.

Right, just that he will lose the fanbase after one (1) bad year in his first year here. Like that’s indicative the entire hire was bad. If the recourse is more disappointed fans that’s hardly a change from the past decade. I expect to make the tournament. If we don’t I’m not going to pout and sulk about how we’re stuck for another 3 years at least. IU fans haven’t watched a winner being built since Knight in the 70s/80s. People moping that we should be better and fans need to express their discontent won’t make things any better. The fact we are having this conversation at all after a relatively hot start in the portal just goes to show how bad IU fans PTSD has become.

I've already responded to that question earlier today, and quoted the posts that I interpreted to have that meaning. This thread is 4 pages long and something you should easily be able to navigate.

“You interpreted?”  Lol.  I interpret your response as “I am dead wrong & got nuthin’, but I’m gonna argue anyway.”

No one has said, or implied he should be fired after a subpar first seasons, you should stop doubling down on an obviously false premise.

We don’t know what they’d have done because it didn’t happen - that’s the point.  What’s the recourse?  Disappointment.  Can you cite anyone on this board, in any thread suggesting he be fired after year one?

Well there is one guy that has already declared that he is not a top 50-60 coach if they don't make the tourney next season. Would you expect IU to just ride with a bottom of the barrel P4 coach?

Or you can just simply go back and read page 1...either way works for me.

100% true that you don't have to outright say it to imply it.

And I have no doubt that if the first year goes badly, some of the 'less patient' fans will outright say it, or at least strongly imply it.

But for now? I don't see anyone saying or implying that a bad first year is cause for termination.

Hurley was on a hotter seat going into year 3.

A far cry from suggesting they be fired, & if they can name coaches ahead of him & make an argument for their case about his “ranking”, then so be it, he may be right.

No he wasn't lol, he didn't start to feel the heat until after his 4th season when he hadn't yet won a tournament game.

Stop it.

play fast, play modern, continue to improve..... FFS someone have a little passion and not just when you're playing Purdue in front of 17k......

more of an understanding of the "next" play

Fans to stop critiquing lineups, subs---- I know, I know how could I, but it's annoying to read.

I did, no one says or implies it in any way, shape, or form, but go ahead & double down…

Define hot seat.  His team's Twitter people were starting to chatter like what happens with IU.  That was the seat getting warmer.  He was able to shut it down with the next few years results.

Because saying that is obviously ignorant.  So, by declaring the HC is patently a bad HC if he doesn't make the tourney, the year in which he has to piece together the entire roster, is a way to say he is not and will not be the guy without saying it. There is no way IU is just going to ride along with a 50-60th level HC for years, so ipso facto if he doesn't make the tourney he should be fired.

Being in danger or jeopardy of losing one's job. That simply did not apply to Hurley after his first two seasons.
