Rank the Likelihood of B1G Teams Getting to a Final Four THIS Year

Recommended Posts

Here's an interesting exercise for y'all:

I fully understand that the B1G is down this year. Fully understood! But try this anyway, from 'Not super-likely but the best chance the B1G has' to 'No way in hell no matter what' (Minnesota), rank the B1G teams for likelihood of making it to the Final Four this year. Basically, this is a 'ceiling' poll with no consideration of 'floor'. I'll try first:

  1. UCLA
  2. Illinois
  3. MSU
  4. Penn State
  5. Ohio State
  6. Michigan
  7. Maryland
  8. Indiana
  9. Oregon
  10. Iowa
  11. Wisconsin
  12. Northwestern
  13. Purdue
  14. Rutgers
  15. USC
  16. Nebraska
  17. Washington
  18. Minnesota

FOR ME? The complete lack of interior defense and rebounding overrides any chance of Purdue or Rutgers getting very far, even with really good players on each roster.

IU is much higher here than the expected order of finish because at least they could be dangerous, whereas some of these teams aren't very dangerous even if their flaws are hidden.

1. Michigan State (think Izzo has 1 great run left in him)

2. Michigan (I mean it would be the ultimate slap in face)

3. Ucla

4. Oregon

5. Purdue

6. Illinois

7. Maryland

8. Wisconsin

9.  OSU

10. Penn State

11. Nebraska (Ceiling wise IU but they just ate our lunch)

12. Indiana (this team could be so good)

13.. Iowa

14.. Rutgers

15. Northwestern

16. USC

17. Minnesota

18. Washington

I’d say Illinois and UCLA have the best shots….but ultimately don’t think any Big Ten team is in the best four.

Brad Underwood is the coach Woody thought he  was.

I agree with this. UCLA and Illinois. A few teams with outside chances.  MSU, Michigan, Maryland (coach holds back a surprisingly good roster) , Oregon.

Indiana might have the “talent” but zero chance this team and its coaches figure it out.  Guards again are soft as butter.  We thought we upgraded the guards big time but we only did slightly.  Team and staff IQ isn’t there.  I think they are too toned in on the details and missing the big picture clues

Our guards could be exceptional but they are all down hill get to the basket guards. High ball screen and roll guards. We still have a very high level of talent with a ton of versatility, it's just implemented as poorly as possible. I'm not sure there is a combination of players that could succeed consistently running this stuff. 1. You have to defend your position. We start every half with the idea that we'll out-offense 3-5 and I guess late in the shot clock clear out for a guard? We have no rhythm to our offense. Few if any hockey assists. I think 8 more wins with a 2-7 January.

Hope line-ups (I hope they play to their potential all at the same time) is a poor practice at any level.
