Season starts Monday fellas.

Last year the season kind of ended in the non-conference because IU had to play so much catch up because of the lackluster play even in wins in the non-conference.

The final results this non-conference season have had final scores that would be okay EXCEPT for the farce of a game we played against Louisville.  16 point losses to Gonzaga are games that can effect seeding but not really whether you get into the tournament or not.  The Louisville game was flat out horrible.

I was at last night's game - nothing much to add to this thread, but it is telling that the loudest the crowd got at any point is when the football team graphic popped up on the jumbotron.  I've been a fan for 30+ years, and never have I seen a more listless, uninspired  fan base.

It's sad to see how far the program has fallen.

Phil Jackson was also the master of putting himself into situations where he couldn't fail.  Coach the Bulls, retire, and then take the job with the Lakers with a prime Kobe.  It is worth noting that Jackson and Woodson were tied together as Woodson coached the Knicks in 2014-5 to a 37-45 record;  he was fired after the season.  Jackson was the GM for the next two seasons where he installed former players Derek Fisher and then Kurt Rambis to the head coaching position where both failed miserably.  So Jackson knew enough to delegate as a coach but when he was in charge of the coaching decisions and team make up......ugh.

My comment is nothing further than his ability to manage egos and personalities like Rodman, Jordan and Pippen.   You can easily fail if the players are out of control.

My comment only means we start playing real teams.  After what we have seen, I am afraid of Minn. and already have Nebraska booked as an L.

You’re talking tournament.  We are a long way from there.  My guess is we’ll be on the bubble again and the non conference schedule will end up keeping us out.  Unless of course big improvements are made quickly.

I agree that we could be a bubble team but I think if IU is .500 in conference, they're in assuming that the Hoosiers win their other remaining non-conference games.  While there haven't been marquis non-conference wins, the SOS on Pom for the non-conference is still 134.  Probably last year was a horrendous non-conference slate and games won by tiny margins.  At the end of the day, all our non-conference wins have been by double digits.

I think that the Jordan factor had a lot to do with his ability to control them.  Once Jordan was gone, Pippen had the playoff game that he refused to go in for the last couple of seconds because Jackson's final play wasn't drawn up for him.

While I agree and it seems this way, our team has definitely be worse.

So,

1. It’s Woody and his “True Fans” comments and alienating the Hysterics, Rabjohns, “inside the hall”, and others. Treatment of Moren, etc.

2. It’s the product? What the offense/defense look like and the effort or lack thereof. Fundamentals etc…

3. Culmination of a bunch of bad hires and mediocre results weighing people down.

4. Other?

5. Combination of all these factors.

I mean, I’m like Ant Wright and others. I could still see this team luck into a decent season. I mean, I’m not expecting it, but with a squinted eye, I can see it.

I do know the state and it’s fans love passionate play and Woody’s team often don’t embody that.

Combination of all those things, imo. We’ve gone to 1 elite eight in 30 years. Won 1 tournament game in the past eight years. We’re at a point where people in their 30s weren’t even alive to see a consistently good IU team. Hell, kids entering college now were 6 years old during the Zeller/Oladipo years. You can only lose so much for so long before people check out.

On the bright side, it can be turned around instantly as shown by Coach Cig (who had a far, far bigger hill to climb than any iubb coach will have). NIL is a gift to a school like IU that has the resources but didn’t want to play by the old rules. So far we’ve squandered it, but maybe that’ll change with the next hire.

Damn…that’s wild.

IU is the worst run program in the major conferences, or was before C1G. It’s actually amazing how resilient our basketball fan support is.

I was there in '76... and at this point, I have trouble remembering a consistently good team... it's been almost 50 years since the last undefeated season... even the '87 team was 37 years ago...

Buckner, Woodson, Miller, Crean, Davis and even the waning years of CBK were generally crappy. There's plenty of blame to go around.

Maybe someday someone will rise up and save this dumpster fire and restore the glory to old IU. Feeling pretty daunted these days about the state of our basketball program. Thankfully, we're a football school now.
