Class of '66 Old Fart

Karoline Striplin from Tennessee to INDIANA

Recommended Posts

Piece of trivia.  Striplin's name was mentioned in a btb thread back in March 2021, in the Kaitlin Peterson thread (remember her?).

This was in a recap of the Alabama vs Mississippi all-star game.

Peterson earned 15 points and had two assists. Geneva County’s Karoline Striplin was the top scorer with 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

She was brought in likely to be a backup big to Meister I assume. Her stats match that perfectly and she can pop a three from time to time. A good backup big was one of the positions missing until now. Still need a starting level shooting guard to replace Scalia but this is a good start and addresses one of the two big needs (backup post and starting shooting guard).

Do you think that Meister is ready to be a 25+ mpg starter?

I would hope for an even split between here, meister and the freshman. I don't think anyone of them will be ready for a starting dominate roll

Yes. From what I have seen I am comfortable saying she is capable of playing 25 minutes and averaging 15 and 8. It will be a drop off from Mack. However, she will be as good a starting center as anyone in the Big Ten and you won't find a better big in portal for Moren's system.

What they need is a starting level player for Scalia more than anything which I hope is in works.

Still have schollys to play with. Hope we're looking for a shooter -- or two.

Always do a doubletake when I see 15 scholarships mentioned for a women's team.  Wonder how the disparity in numbers men vs women came about and the rationale behind it.  Anybody know?

Title IX necessitates an equal number of scholarship athletes for women's sports.

Men's football has 85 scholarship athletes, which necessitates higher scholarship limits in some women's sports and the addition of scholarship sports for women that are not scholarship sports for men.

Universities don't have to use them all in any sport, but it's less expensive and easier to add a few to already existing women's programs than to start new teams.

It has to do with keeping in compliance with Title IX -- and the fact that FBS schools can offer 85 football schollys.

I'm sure there's someone out there who can explain it better than that, though.

I think -- though I am not 100% sure -- FBS schools can offer 85 football scholarships while FCS schools can offer 63.

Not sure who will start the most but playing time will be more of a 50/50 split give or take a couple minutes and game situations between Striplin and Meister.  Striplin should average doubles figures.  Meister will be successful if she can average 10 points.  Both, rebound and play solid defense.  Meister struggled on offense thus far (lack of playing time behind Mack) as she has a hard time playing in traffic her first two seasons.

Maybe, some situational help from Wiseman and Fenn and Currie-Jelks as season progresses.
