Question:  In this day and age, should a school take a developmental player and use resources to get them up to speed when they could very easily just move on and waste the time you spent developing them without getting much court time?

No not worth it

Maybe not. But what does a team do with 13 scholarships otherwise? Get a few Leals and even Prillers I guess.

With the portal, not sure 13 scholarships are needed anymore -- certainly no necessarily.  I guess on guys like Newton who was hurt all year it helps, so maybe it allows teams to take flyers on guys with injuries.

No, with the transfer portal they should build a relationship with the kid then let him go to a low- or mid-major school. Then hope that relationship is enough if he performs well and enters the portal in the future.

I see it a little differently - it depends. A “developmental” player could be one who’s too raw or one who’s breaking through and could be a real piece of the team soon.

Woodson left a scholly on the table from this past season. Anyone think that was a good decision? Do you pass on a guy just bc he hasn’t been discovered by the scouts who rank? No way, not if you have a good group of assistants who know what they’re doing (that’s where we also need development). A Priller - hard pass. Not a guy who looks like he’ll develop soon into a contributor. But a guy like a Troy or a Vic or yes a Geronimo. - some aren’t going to develop well but with the scholarships absolutely. Why leave yourself short?
Besides the obvious risk of injury to your core players and lack of depth, having a good developmental program is also a part of team building

I'd always take this type of athleticism and length.  I would trust my (staffs) ability to recongize and develop talent.

I'm not sure what you would use schollies 11-13 on anyways?

Leaving the scholly open was sooooooo stupid
