On #1-- "making it very clear"... meaning it's very clear we have gobs of money to spend? Or what exactly did #1 mean?

Carlyle and Walker would improve us in a hurry. Throw in a healthy Newton.... I think at that point you could add an Essigan. I'd still love Conner Hickman.

Conwell getting in the portal might change things, though. We'd undoubtedly be able to give him more money than ISU.

Newton is a huge wildcard.  Granted we haven't seen him play in an IU uniform yet, but he seems to just have that junkyard dog mentality to bring some toughness and swag to the IU backcourt.

His exact words were "IU is making NIL budget very clear". So we can only assume what the means exactly. So does that mean that we are telling kids we can and will pay more, or does that just mean we are letting people know we have a lot to spend. I dont know the exact details on that.

Carlyle and Walker would help very quickly out of the gate. Would be a good "holeshot" as the saying goes.

As for Newton, i think it would be really unfair for any of us to put any hope into him (not saying that you are). Not because of his talent or drive, but those injuries are tough and he hasn't played in a very long time. I just hope he is able to get back on the court and play period. If he contributes anything, that is the icing on the cake.

Conwell is kind of up in the air. Some have said that if Schertz leaves and head to L'ville per say, Conwell may follow. So that will be interesting to see how it all unfolds. No one really knows right now it seems.

If Schertz does indeed take the Louisville job, tough seeing those ISU kids doing anything but following him. I was hoping he'd take the SLU job because it's not P5. Louisville being P5 + NIL makes me think guys like Swope, Larry, Conwell, Avilia, etc all follow him.

I feel like it's a lot more unfair to not hope for him? Some of you guys thoughts on him are very confusing. He's a scholly player, the videos at the end of the season showed a heckuva lot of promise. A healthy offseason... very excited for him. He isn't dead. We aren't keeping him as a charity case.

Like I think if the season started today, Newton would be in the rotation rather quickly, judging how healthy and explosive he was by the end of the year.

----------------------------------------

On Conwell--I meant to say "we'd undoubtedly give him more money than SLU" if Shertz were to go there.

Sidenote: I'm frustrated Conwell or Javon Small aren't already on our roster.

Conwell, Larry, and a hard maybe on Swope are the only guys that could play in the ACC. And Swope and Larry aren't starters on a good ACC team. Love me some Robbie, but I don't see that going well. I'm still calling my shot on Conwell to IU and would put money on it if Schertz is going to SLU instead of UL.

I think Swope would be a REALLY good bench guard, but I 100% agree with the general premise of what you're saying.

The bold, you've stated this before? If so, is there backing behind that opinion? Just curious and appreciate any info.

Conwell, Larry, and Swope were a better backcourt than many of the ACC teams I watched this year. Those 3 paired with a rim protector and an athletic 4 in Schertz system could make for a nice year 1 team. Avila while not a 30 mpg guy in P5 could still be very effective off the bench.

Have stated it before, but qualified with mostly a gut feeling. Nothing really concrete there. I hear things being in ISU country, but nothing I'd consider "sourced", if that makes sense.

Can't tell me EVERY kid from Indiana doesn't at one point put themselves in candy stripes, under 5 banners, thinking about playing at Assembly Hall when it's rocking. Hopefully Conwell, with a big ole NIL incentive, wants that more than another spot.

I've found in these 3 years that doubting anything Schertz does is a loser's game, so if he goes to UL and they go with, I'm sure it would work out. Swope's size plus coming off a knee surgery this coming summer would give me pause.

If he isn't staying in Terre Haute, I want Conwell at IU really bad.

I think there are people in Conwell's ear about IU. What I don't know is if those are IU people, Conwell's "camp", or both though. Whether he comes here or not, that kid is getting paid next season.

If you are referring to the portal tracker of IU interest from inside the hall, they are only publishing items that a player may have stated publically.  It’s not like once a player enters the portal that it becomes an exact science of knowing every move a player does.

Thanks Tim McCarver.  :)    Of course we can only go by publicly stated information.  Point still is, performance to date is underwhelming.
