LamarCheeks Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 O$U used that press to rally from a huge deficit (maybe 28 points) knock us out of the B1G tournament last season. Troubling to me that we haven't learned to combat that. Oh well -- 1-1 road trip at Maryland and Columbus isn't bad, but we could've won both. Next two at home -- MSU on Thursday and the Toiletmakers on Sunday. Hoping Syd progresses and can get back into the lineup soon. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2024 Author Posted February 4, 2024 74-69 O$U win. Pts: Sara 25; Mack and Yarden 14 each; Chloe 10; Lexi 6 We didn't get any points from our bench. Reb: Mack & Yarden 9 each; Sara & Lexi 4 each; Chloe 3. 4 from our bench in 23 min. Asst: Chloe 5; Mack 4 Just 13 total on 25 made FG TO: 23 total Quote

I know we’re benefiting with Mack. But 5-6 years is just too long. Programs need to turnover or recruit and shouldn’t just be good because their best players have been there for half a decade. Thankfully, this year's seniors are the last who can take advantage. Clark actually could play another year at Iowa -- and probably make as much or more money from NIL than in the WNBA -- but I have to think she's ready for a step up in competition. Quote
TTT Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 At the start of the season projections were 1. Iowa 2. OSU 3. IU so far playing out that way. IU Ladies did have a little closer loss this time. Ohio State is good but not that good. Quote
colonel06 Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 I don’t think we’ll see that many turnovers again as the starters had like 5 T.O. each! Quote

TheWatShot Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 How much of an effort was made to replace Grace Berger through the portal last spring? Last year we cut that OSU press to pieces for 2 and a half meetings when Grace was here. This year she's not here, we're down another guard and we turn it over 23 times. thebigweave 1 Quote

Good question although I certainly don't know the answer. It couldn't be CTM was expecting Lenee to step right into the fray given CTM's tendency to rely on veterans. Was she expecting more out of Sandvik? Did she think we'd be OK with the returning roster as a whole? There's so little info in general that gets out regarding women's recruiting so no way to know if we explored the portal or not. Quote
TTT Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 IU Ladies have tried to get player/s. For the amount of success they had recently player/s elected to go elsewhere. I don’t think you replace Berger but more help was definitely needed. You have depth then injury and now depth is lacking. Recruiting doesn’t seem to match level that matches success to kick it up beyond level program is currently at. Michigan State is having a good season regarding Thursday. Quote
TTT Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 T.Moren always talks about how big a loss G.B. was which is fine but getting another needed to happen and still does need to happen for 24-25. (couple players from portal) Quote

The returning roster is excellent. Berger was a top 5 pick; that is someone that is very difficult to replace. We are #10 in the country. We lost to #8 on the road by four points without our third best player. In other words? It’s ALL good. Todd41, LockdownD, CSP and 2 others 5 Quote

Depends on where the NIL money is coming from. She does State Farm commercials -- that likely would continue. But I would think her NIL deals at Iowa would go away. People (boosters) aren't gonna pay NIL money to an Iowa player who's no longer at Iowa. Quote

The vast majority of her NIL deals and the one that pay her the most of her money are not Iowa related. The 80k salary will more than make up for the little bit of Iowa NIL lost. Quote

Yes, some excellent players coming back barring injury/s…but impact player help is needed in the 2024 transfer portal (one player for sure and probably 2 players) or IU Ladies will slide into the middle of the pack in big ten for 2024-2025. Got to keep up on talent. (South Carolina Ladies replaced every starter from last year) Quote
