I can dig that, pretty much Soccer’s version of the 2-point conversion

Honestly I bet the alternating corners decide more matches than we would think. If winning or losing is on the line for every corner I bet you get a slightly higher conversion rate AND I bet you naturally get some penalties in that situation anyway, reducing the number of times it ends up going to PKs.

I think PKs are fine but exhaust options before going there. Golden goal OT, max 30 minutes is great, but every 10 minutes each team takes off one player, having to decide whether it’s attacking or defensive player. It would be down to a more wide open 8 vs 8 by the end of OT if still tied. Then alternating corner kicks, 6 each, 3 from each corner. Play is dead when the ball clears the 18 yard box. If still tied, go to PKs. You’re welcome, everybody.

I know some on here played at some level as well… but speaking from a former player’s perspective, that sounds great for fans but at that level of play after 120 minutes, your legs are toast. It’s gotta end somehow because people will start getting hurt or cramping up and struggling. PK’s are what they are. You love winning that way, but it kills losing that way.

I’ve already solved this problem by the taking off of a player each 10 minutes in OT. More wide open, more goals!

Kidding. You’re probably right. And I never played myself. My taking off of a player idea will never happen. But a 15-20 golden goal OT, followed by alternating corners before PKs doesn’t seem crazy, or more taxing than the current set up, and would reduce the number of matches decided by PKs.

Team is not as bad in PK's as everyone seems to think. Won five huge PK shootouts since 2017. Since they were never the last one people seem to forget them. Obviously everyone remembers the 2017 one to advance to College Cup. What everyone is forgetting is they needed PK's in Big Ten Tourney In 2018 against Maryland in semi's, 2019 in championship against Michigan, and 2020 in championship against PSU. You lose those and there is no three straight doubles in Big Ten. Also, in 2021 COVID spring had to survive PK's against LIU Brooklyn in second round or there is no College Cup that season.

Yes the last two in the tournament have not gone IU's way but before that they had not lost in NCAA's on PK's since 2007. A lot of golden or late goals which are equally heartbreaking have absolutely happened (and does to everyone in tournament given the close matches). However no PK losses to close season between 2008 and 2022 title game last year.

The real thing to look at is how much better this program has gotten again in last few seasons. Between 2005 and 2016 had a grand total of just two elite eight appearances, one college cup, and five Big Ten titles. Since 2017 despite missing another national title the team has eight conference trophies, five elite eight's, and four College Cups. While they have not finished the job in any of them, the team as a whole has never looked overmatched in any of these heavy weight fights and has advanced far deeper in tourney than in previous dozen seasons before that.

Still waiting for that elusive ninth star. However, they have the talent and team to compete for it now now year in and year out which was not always the case previous to that when Mike Freitag nearly ruined the program and it took the current Yeagley a few years to build it back up to close to where his father had it.

I have enjoyed following the IU men's soccer journey this season.  Thanks and a hearty congratulations to the team, the coaches, for the successes!  And all those involved with making it available to fans in remote places a tip of the hat.  Including Btown Banners and the community of posters...even including the...moderators...old and the new. (some of which are on double-secret probation, no doubt.)

Disappointing that we lost but you can't take away the job Yeagley and the team did to turn the season around get to the Elite 8.  Already looking forward to next year.

Yep would interested on Aaron’s take on who we lose and how the incoming class looks.
