Oh now you were laughing at me while you posted that weren’t you? Good thing I know the trick. Stuhoo said all I had to do was poke it in the eye and it would leave. So if he shows up on my porch I will calmly reach down and give it the ol eye poke and be on my way.

I forgot to ask—is your dog tasty? That could be a problem.

Hey Florida Friends.  We have been down here for a little over a year and it has been a great move.  Settled in north of Tampa but have a company down in Juno Beach area trying to encourage me to consider a position with them.  Any of you familiar with the area that can give me some suggestions?

Looks like the home prices are a little over Tampa pricing.  How are the airports there?  I like flying out of Tampa or the smaller St Pete airport - are there similar options down there?  We are not big night life people but when the kids come into town, I presume that area has similar things to do as in Tampa.

Any suggestions, tips or ideas - I am all ears.

Palm Beach County? That's home base for me.

West Palm Beach has a very user-friendly, full-service airport that's about 20 minutes away from Juno. Home prices have exploded, but if you are willing to commute down from Martin County they'd probably equal Tampa area prices. Much less population and things to do once you get past the county line though. The area is thriving economically - lots of northeasterners moved down during the pandemic and seem to be staying. Low unemployment and well-funded government services. Public schools are very good in Jupiter; hit and miss throughout the county. Culturally diverse; the Hispanic influence starts to wane as you go north of West Palm. Tons to do - downtown West Palm is great, weather/ocean/outdoors is great (except for during July-Sept, when it's abject misery). Florida man is a weird creature and is everywhere, so there's that.

How did all my new Florida neighbors do with the storm?  We lost power for a few hours but otherwise we are good.  Looks like there are about 1.2 million people without power currently and there is a ton of flooding.  Hoping you all are well.

Left Destin Wednesday morning by air.  Had a wonderful condo with my family about 200 yards to the beach.

They have schedules for work and other things, so we all bailed early.  My wife and I were thinking about staying.  Residents said they were staying and that there was backup power...etc.  Seems the scattershot predictions were too much pressure for the youngins.

Destin avoided most of the impacts.  But we had no idea about that when decisions were being made early on.  Wondered about airlines and the difficulties of repositioning aircraft and crews.  And whether destinations were risky too.

Stay safe and healthy.

I was in Vegas for a conference and was supposed to fly back on Thursday but came back on the last flight Wednesday evening.  I think they got the path right but did not anticipate the size or how strong this one would get.  Glad you got out safely.  It was probably pretty nice in Destin weather wise before you left.

I've been without power since yesterday at about 4:30.  It's been a looooong 27 hours.  I got some damage to the house, and my mom's house is toast.  So now I have a new roommate.  My wife is not real happy lol

Expected power is Sunday night.  I'm living like a pioneer here.  Definitely want to find a place for the Hoosiers game tomorrow

Where in the state did you decide to live?

Well I am working in Tampa.  We are about 30 mins from downtown and the airport, maybe 45 from the beach. Other than leaving family behind it has been a great move

To everyone in the path of Milton, stay safe and don't try to be a hero and ride it out.

Ehhhh....there's a million reasons to shelter in place.  Maybe I'm crazy since I'm directly on the coast and it's heading to me but I ain't letting no nerdlinger named Milton beat me.

If it takes me, don't give my post count to Aloha.
