JerryYeagley23 Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Good win. Big third quarter and a heck of a game by Grace. Hopefully Mack will be back for the Iowa home/home. Shouldn’t need her until then. Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 13, 2022 Author Posted February 13, 2022 Seth Tow - No. 7 Indiana women's basketball sustained its momentum Saturday with its fourth straight victory. The Hoosiers ran away with the game in the second half, downing Michigan State 76-58. Indiana (18-3, 10-1 Big Ten) remains atop the Big Ten standings with the victory. Michigan State (13-11, 7-6) couldn't sustain progress from its upset of No. 4 Michigan on Thursday. Here are three reasons why it happened. Berger takes command Grace Berger has been a consistent double-digit scorer for Indiana — she’s finished with fewer than 10 points in just two games this season. At times, it feels quiet. That was not the case against Michigan State. The senior guard was in full control Saturday, racking up 29 points on a 9-of-17 line. She drew fouls consistently, and was locked in at the free-throw line — she knocked down all 11 attempts at the foul line. She was particularly dominant in the third quarter, when she shot 6 for 8 for 17 points. Indiana has not relied on one player from game to game. IU has had various players step into the spotlight throughout the season. This wasn’t the first time Berger has done so, but it’s the first time in a few games. Hoosiers come out of halftime firing Berger was the catalyst for Indiana in the third quarter, but the entire team was on point after the break. The Hoosiers played one of their best quarters of the season in the third period Saturday, outscoring Michigan State 30-14. Ali Patberg also enjoyed a productive quarter, with seven points. Indiana played at a high level defensively for the entire game, but some offensive troubles kept the game close during the first half. Once the Hoosiers got that sorted out in the third quarter, they pulled away. Strong defense Indiana's offense needed time to catch up, but the defense was sound all game. The Hoosiers shut down Michigan State standout Nia Clouden, holding her to 3 of 12 for 10 points. She averaged 21.3 points per game entering the contest, and shot 45 percent from the field. The Spartans' secondary options struggled as well, as Matilda Ekh — a 42 percent 3-point shooter — scored just seven points and shot 1 for 4 from downtown. Michigan State had its chance to establish a lead when Indiana's offense was shaky in the first half, but MSU couldn't capitalize, and it wound up being the Hoosiers who let the Spartans hang around in the game. DB Hoosier Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 And a good weekend turns even better for the Lady Hoosiers... Northwestern hands Michigan its 3rd B1G loss with a 71-69 overtime win at home. Meanwhile, perennial bottom-feeder Wisconsin records its biggest comeback in program history overcoming a 22-point 2nd half deficit at home to defeat Purdue 54-52. I can't let a good Purdue meltdown go unnoticed, regardless of sport. They were up 17-0 to start the game and were 5 seconds away from shutting out Wisconsin in the first quarter. Up 37-15 in the second half...and they still lost. Stuhoo, LockdownD and LIHoosier 1 2 Quote
JerryYeagley23 Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 This is gonna be a tough test coming up with 4 games in 7 days. Tonight at Neb is no walk in the park. They’re a team that beat Michigan by 20 back in December and we only beat them by 7 at home more recently. Northwestern Thursday who just beat Mich should be a W at home but can’t look forward to Iowa. Then playing Iowa twice in three days home-away is a tough way to end the week. For a team without much depth there’s gonna be some tired legs next week. We have the talent to go 3-1 I think, but 2-2 might be more realistic especially if Mack doesn’t come back for either Iowa game which seems unlikely. Quote
