HoosierAloha Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 It took me about 6 weeks of playing to get my first round under par. Suck it @Josh Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted July 30, 2024 Author Posted July 30, 2024 Started the year well....now not so much. And today I broke my driver (wasn't intentional). Have no idea how it broke, must have had a crack in the shaft. Went to pick my tee out of the ground, used my driver for balance....and club just totally cracked. Only second club I've had break in fifty years of playing (my dad got me on the course very young). I was using a Mizuno ST-X 230 driver. Since Mizuno came out with a new line recently, the previous version really came down in price so didn't feel like investing in getting it reshafted when its resell value isn't that much more than it would take to reshaft. Ended up buying a Cobra Aerojet for $280. Will be trying it out tomorrow. Quote

Suck it @Josh I've never been under par for 18. Been under par for nine twice. Best eighteen hole round has been 77 (a couple of times). Meanwhile, my 78 year old father who leaves and breathes golf put up back to back 75s (one where he went 42-33). I use to think I didn't need to get better at golf to beat him, just needed to wait until he got old. That plan is out of the book. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 Had my driver shaft snap about a month ago. Not sure what happened, after I hit a drive bent down to pick up a tee and the shaft broke so must have been cracked. Had been hitting a Mizuno ST-X 230 and decided to just switch to a new driver. Hitting a Cobra Aerojet now. Did buy a Calloway Paradym three wood earlier in the year and considered getting a Paradym driver but for my game the difference the Aerojet and Paradym is very slight so saved a few bucks. Quote

I bought the AI Smoke hybrids (3 and 4) and they're effing awesome. I had the Paradym, but I just couldn't hit it so I replaced it with the Smokes and couldn't be happier. I'd probably crush Aloha by 20 now RaceToTheTop 1 Quote

Lowlight was having an eagle putt on a par five and three putting for par. Ended up missing three three-footers and shot 86. Quote
HoosierAloha Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Some golf updates holed out from ~120 yards for eagle, finished second in league, our team won the annual guy's golf trip and I earned MVP, shot mid 70s at Pinehurst twice on no. 2 and no. 4, and have shot under par a few times. I'm about to redo my entire golf bag to attempt to improve my game for next year. RaceToTheTop and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote

Cobra Aerojet driver now (although that was a rushed pick after my Mizuno broke and didn't want to wait). My bag is mostly Calloway (Mavrik Max irons, Paradym three wood) with the Cobra driver and putter. Did by a used Titleist Vokey 54 degree for a good deal because previous owner had his initials engraved on it.....I could care less because it hits the same. HoosierAloha 1 Quote

Titleist is what I'm looking at but can't decide if I want to go T100s or T150s for the irons. I just upgraded my Vokeys to SM9s and can tell a big difference. I'll probably be upgrading to the newest Titleist driver, 3W, and hybrid too. I need to find time to go get fitted. I'm a Titleist wh*re through and through. I've hit a lot of other brands cheaper and more expensive but nothing feels quite like Titleist to me. Napleshoosier 1 Quote

Demo Posted June 11, 2025 Posted June 11, 2025 https://x.com/PGATUOR/status/1932528582556872805 Thoughts? I’m thinking Oakmont from the tips set up for a US Open an 18 is gonna be something like +2 GIR per hole and probably 3.5 putts. So that’s 135 as a starting point. Don’t see any way it’s any better than that and after getting their brains beat out for 7-8 holes it could get a whole lot worse. str8baller 1 Quote

Nothing is more exhausting than hacking and struggling from deep rough when you can only advance it 50-100 yards. So the 18 handicap is tired and they have to handle undulating super slick greens they are not used to. There would be lots of chips running way by and putting could be even worse than 3.5 per hole. The number of terrible lag putts and missed three footers would add up real quick. I’d guess double par for a score, 140 or so? I like bloodbath US Opens. I hope they turn the course up to 11 and make these pampered pros cry. Hovadipo 1 Quote

I'm kinda shocked he did it, because he's struggled at this challenge at some "easier" courses. I mostly share this because I shout to anyone that will listen that this is a Mt Rushmore YT channel, golf or otherwise. Especially a few years back when he did a long Scotland series. He's a filmmaker by trade, so his take on golf content is worlds better than most for those that appreciate that type of thing. RaceToTheTop, Pagoda and Demo 3 Quote

Would think that’s a pretty decent approximation other than the greens not being completely shaved. Hovadipo 1 Quote

He usually does this within a couple weeks of the tournament that’s being played. He probably had friendlier greens, but I’d bet the rough was still in “omg look how tall the rough is” mode before they trim it for the tournament. Pagoda 1 Quote
