Coronavirus and Its Impact

They should've done mail-in; people shouldn't have to choose between their health and their civic duty.  Milwaukee, a city of about 600K, had only 5 polling stations too, that doesn't help at all.

Well that was orchestrated for partisan reasons and it backfired. Hopefully other states expand mail in ballots because of it

I know it was done for partisan reasons; blatantly putting political gain over the health of constituents is crooked at best and evil at worst.  Made me laugh when they lost anyway.

Yep. The guy running made a big deal about recusing himself as if he wasn’t going to get what he wanted anyway.

I know a judge in Texas said Covid fears are a valid reason for requesting a mail in ballot.  I imagine that will stick with seeing the Wisconsin result.

You can in most places request an early ballot by mail but to do it all by mail would wind up as mass fraud. No thank you!

The data doesn’t back up either of those claims. Well I guess to be fair you can request it just about anywhere. Whether it will be granted is another thing.

Voter fraud really isn't much of a problem, at all.

That site links to multiple studies.  It's nonsensical to make a person choose between their health and voting, especially over something that really isn't a problem to begin with.

Let's all hope our professionals can find something to defeat this virus.

That's four studies now I've seen....one said there could be a benefit but was a very small study and the medicine was not used with those with anything beyond moderate symptoms, one blind study that was much larger and measured the outcomes of 180 patients and saw no difference in the outcome of the use of the drug, one live study that was discontinued after 13 days because the outcome in those using the drug were so bad, and now this one that is showing no net benefit.  That's four countries with four trials and there is no proof that the use of it is a benefit.

Could make it more prevalent indeed.

Depends what your definition of “fraud” is though. Statutorily it’s really hard to prove.

Well, the president said it, so it must be true! (Never mind that he voted absentee in Florida last month and in the 2018 New York primary)

Not to mention the commission he put together to investigate alleged fraud disbanded after finding zero evidence to support his claims of widespread fraud.

And it's funny that there never has been any outcry about fraud from the military voting absentee.

It might have been posted in here, but this thread is a doozy so forgive me if I missed it. Did anyone see the IndyStar article claiming that like 7 people that attended the Lawrence Central sectional have died?

Wild times.

I had heard of five, so it must have went up a couple since.

I had tickets for the Big Ten tournament on Thursday and Friday sessions.  Makes me think.

No risk of fraud if you are registered and show ID!

Actually historically more fraud has occurred at actual polling places than mail in voting.

And does that mean people who are sick or bed ridden shouldn’t be allowed to vote?  What about people traveling?

Hey all (including me) ... Coronavirus and its impact is the thread. It's tangentially related to mail in voting, but as Watshot said, it can get away from there in a hurry. Maybe we can steer it back.

Death toll back above 2000 today without some states even reporting. With some states relaxing social distancing. Probably going to hit 60,000 by end of month. Maybe 65,000

So you can't use a non scientific study (peer reviewed, controlled, etc.) to say "it works"  but you can use a non-scientific study to say "it doesn't work?"

I guess these guys are wasting their time and money.   https://www.genengnews.com/news/novartis-plans-phase-iii-trial-of-hydroxychloroquine-for-covid-19/
