Indiana Women's Basketball has announced the signing of four to the Class of 2023 in Jorie Allen (Bedford, Ind.), Shaila Beeler (Indianapolis, Ind.), Mackenzie Holmes (Gorham, Maine) and Arielle Wisne (Thornton, Colo.) The class features a pair of five-star commitments and is ranked 18th overall in the country by ESPN. The class also ranks 12th in the nation and fourth overall in the Big Ten according to the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and third in the Big Ten by AGSR.

Jorie Allen
A five-star prospect out of nearby Bedford, Indiana, Allen has led Bedford North Lawrence to three sectional championships and is on pace to break the school's all-time scoring record, having amassed 1,358 points heading into her senior season. As a junior, Allen averaged 17.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 2.7 assists per game as BNL won a Hoosier Heritage Conference championship along with a regional championship. She has averaged double figures in all three seasons of her high school career with 16.1 points as a freshman while adding a double-double average as a sophomore (17.7 ppg., 10.3 rpg.). Other honors for Allen include a three-time IBCA All-State selection, three-time HHC All-Conference, ICGSA All-State First Team, AP All-State and Indiana Junior All-Star. She is rated as the No. 52 recruit by ESPN's Hoopgurlz, No. 51 by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report, No. 72 by ProspectsNation and No. 77 by AGSR. Allen played with the Indy Lady Gym Rats AAU team.

Shaila Beeler
Beeler, a 5-foot-7 guard from Indianapolis, is another highly ranked prospect for the Hoosiers who led Warren Central to its first state championship in 2018.  During the Warriors' state run, Beeler averaged 15.2 points, three rebounds and six assists per game as they finished 20-7 overall. She is a three-time All-State selection, three-time all-county honoree, Warren Central's Freshman of the Year (2016) and Female Athlete of the Year (2018).  As a freshman, she averaged 15.0 points per game to go along with five rebounds and four dishes per contest. Beeler was invited as one of 35 athletes to USA U-16 Trails in 2017 and was named an Indiana Junior All-Star last season. She also played with the Indy Lady Gym Rats AAU team. She is rated as the No. 19 recruit by ProspectsNation and a three-star recruit from ESPN Hoopgurlz.

Mackenzie Holmes
Holmes is another five-star recruit for the Hoosiers from Gorham, Maine as she led Gorham High School to two state championships and a state runner up finish last season. She averaged 21 points per game, 13.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks and 2.8 steals per game as a junior as she is a three-time first team All-SMAA selection. Holmes is a two-time SMAA Player of the Year and selected twice to the all-defensive team. She played AAU with the Maine Firecrackers and is rated as the No. 53 recruit by ESPN Hoopgurlz, No. 52 by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and No. 131 by AGSR.

Arielle Wisne 
Out of Horizon High School in Thornton, Colo., Wisne is a 6-foot-5 center who averaged 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game as a junior.  She helped Horizon to Great Eight all three years and a No. 1 state ranking multiple times as they went undefeated in Front Range League play two years in a row to earn two conference titles. Wisne is an All-Conference selection and named the Hawks' Most Improved Player while leading the league in blocks. She played AAU with BC Denver.

Well I was just gonna say it help to build relationships early, you never know who.is gonna put in work. When Holmes committed she had like 5 offers 2 major. She's clearly transformed her game

Jorie Allen, Bedford North Lawrence

The 6-2 Allen, an Indiana recruit, averaged 19.1 points and 8.0 rebounds as a senior to lead the Stars to a 23-6 record and into a Class 4A regional final. The four-year standout won a sectional all four seasons and a regional title as a junior. Allen scored 1,930 career points, a program record.

Shaila Beeler, Warren Central

The 5-7 point guard, an Indiana recruit, led Warren Central to a Class 4A state championship as a junior, averaging 13.5 points and 5.0 assists. As a senior, Beeler led the Warriors to an 18-3 record and Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference title. She averaged 11.8 points, 7.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

Indiana added Michigan City’s Hannah Noveroske to the 2019 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-5 post was previously committed to Xavier.

With the signing of Noveroske, the Hoosiers now have three Indiana All-Stars as part of the 2019 class, including joining Warren Central point guard Shaila Beeler and Bedford North Lawrence forward Jorie Allen. Vincennes Rivet guard Grace Waggoner, originally committed to Evansville, is also slated to join IU as a preferred walk-on.

Noveroske suffered an ACL injury her junior year, a day after she accepted Xavier’s scholarship offer. The injury cut into her senior season of volleyball, but Noveroske didn’t miss a beat on the basketball court. She averaged 21.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 5.5 blocks per game for a 20-5 Michigan City squad.

Brian Neal stepped down as Xavier’s women’s basketball coach in March, which opened the door for the Hoosiers. A second chance at Noveroske was fortuitous, especially with Kym Royster’s graduation and sophomore Linsey Marchese decision to transfer.

Now the Hoosiers should have multiple freshman posts vying for minutes in 2018-19. Mackenzie Holmes, the player of the year in Maine, produced 30.1 points, 16.7 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks per contest for Gorham High. Arielle Wisne, from Thornton, Colo., projects more as a project (6.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.8 bpg). 

However things shake out in the front court, the roster as a whole is starting to take on more of an in-state flavor. IU coach Teri Moren has long stated a desire to get the state’s recruits in cream and crimson. With the addition of 2015 Miss Basketball Ali Patberg as a transfer two years ago, and the addition of four in-state freshmen in 2019, the Hoosiers have built some momentum in that regard.

Beeler, Allen, Waggoner, and Noveroske have all play AAU basketball for the Indy Lady Gym Rats program, which is headed up by James Banks. He is the father of IU assistant Janese Constantine.

Kind of a last minute desperation offer to get us depth in the post..she needs to get in shape if she wants to play meaningful minutes...I wasnt that impressed with her footwork or speed when I watched her play

Indiana all-stars beaten by Kentucky 79-74.  They play again Saturday night in Indpls. at Bankers Life.   Jorie Allen had 12 pts.   Indiana girls only 11-22 on FT and 5-22 on 3's

In OT, the Indiana girls salvage a split with their Kentucky counterparts getting a 76-71 win at Bankers Life thanks to strong play in OT from IU recruits.

Jorie Allen with a big bucket inside and fouled. She hits. Tied 71-71 with 2:02 in OT. 

Allen with another bucket on a great feed from Beeler. Indiana All-Stars lead 73-71 with 1:04 in OT. And Allen back to line. She hits one. Up 74-71.

Shaila Beeler making big plays in OT. Misses a shot after a nice drive but gets a steal and dishes to Allen, who is again fouled. Kentucky ball back, 74-71 with 22.9 seconds in OT.

 

Score was tied at 64 in regulation with 16.9 second left; Kentucky had the ball and graciously committed a turnover but the Indiana girls couldn't get a bucket.  First overtime game in the series since 2010.

So, in trying to figure out the rotation I'm trying to figure out which freshman if any will get meaningful minutes. I'm guessing moren, as a creature of habit, will start

1- patberg

2- penn

3- bendu (berger if bendu still injured)

4- wise

5-holmes??

 

Seems like an odd lineup but she rarely shakes up the lineup very much. I wouldnt mind seeing

1- beeler/patberg/wilson

2- penn/berger/warthen

3- patberg/yeaney/warthen

4- yeaney/wise/gulbe/allen

5- holmes/noveroske/allen/wisne(redshirt?)

Seems like a lot of depth and that doesnt even include alexis Johnson or grace waggoner
