Even Purdue has two decent starters as a bad team that they throw each week for two of the games and will go 5-6 innings as long as they are decent.

Again this shows as I talked about above why Glant's tenure has been such a problem and by most accounts a failure. Its not the depth or ERA per se. Those could be better. However, the inability to find or develop at least two starting pitchers each season is something only he faces. As I said, in four seasons he has had 1.5 legit starting pitchers from the get go each spring. Every other team in college baseball almost has had eight at minimum in same time.

ERA and depth need to be better but that is a challenge every single team is facing in this era of college baseball. Only Glant has not been able to identify and develop length with constant starters. Even bad teams can do that as Boilermakers have.

This fundamental thing is difference between a middling tenure Glant could get away with, and one he has had that has single handedly blown up two of his four seasons and nearly did a third last yr. No one else including bad teams have this problem.

Hoosiers win the weekend opener 8-0.

We got tonight what we've been lacking most of the season.  A starting pitcher who can make it through more than a few innings.  Kraft on the mound and pitched a 7-inning 5-hit shutout walking just a single batter and left the mound with the Hoosiers holding a 5-0 lead.  We added 3 more runs in our 8th.  Gilley pitched the 8th and Haas finished the night up in the 9th.

Hoosiers finished with 10 hits with 4 batters getting 2 each.  Malamazian led the way with 3 RBI.

Purdue is awful and IU ran over them as one would hope.

Tonight highlights my frustration with Glant. Kraft was great in summer league, then was terrible at start of season and has come on down stretch. Kraft along with Grable should absolutely had been the two weekend starters all season but took them most of the year to come on.

Glant always finds a few guys down stretch, but the fact it takes them half a season to figure it out speaks to a massive problem. You should have two starters and 2-3 reliable relievers in set roles from get go.

As bad as Purdue is, they have that. Yes their Friday guy tonight gets pounded at times, but he has a set role as a long starter for entire year. Glant's total inability to figure out defined roles for half a season and especially identify starters is inexcusable and its holding program back.

Glad IU took care of their primary rivals who won't make Omaha for Big Ten Tourney. For IU, their sole focus is winning whole thing there with at-large bid out of the question.

PUke wins today 5-1 so Sunday isn't just for the weekend series but an all important point in the Governor's Cup competition.  PUke pitchers limited us to 7 hits - 3 of them by Hanley and 2 by Malamazian.  Grable started and went 5.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and 1 BB.  Seebold pitched the final 3.2 innings and gave up 2 more runs on 2 hits.

Sunday's game is at 4:00 and televised on BTN.

So far so good in today's game with our Hoosiers leading 6-0 after 3 complete and we only have 1 base hit.  PUke pitchers have issued 5 BB, threw 2 WP and hit 2 batters.  Both WP took place in the 1st inning when we scored our first run.  In the 2nd, we scored 5 runs with 3 coming on our lone hit of the game, a 3-run HR from Dickerson.  Gilley on the mound.

We lead 8-3 after 6 complete.  PUke scored 3 in its 4th; we picked up a run in our 5th and another in our 6th.  Gilly pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits; 1 BB and struck out 6.    Brayton Thomas now on the mound.  We missed an opportunity in the 6th to blow the game open.  We had the bases loaded with 1 out but could only score 1 run.

Thomas didn't have any stuff and was pulled after facing just 4 batters - 2 got hits and he hit 1.  Decker-Petty came on and got us out of the inning with PUke scoring just 1 run.  We immediately got that run back in our 7th on a Wiggins solo HR.   We then loaded the bases with 1 out and scored another run on a PUke base on balls.  A Dickerson single scored another run.  Hanley greeted a new pitcher with a single driving in 2 runs and a Malamazian single drove in another run making it a 14-4 game and with the 10-run rule the game was over.  For the game we had 10 hits.  Dickerson had 3 and Cerny and Malamazian each with 2.  Dickerson had 4 RBI, Hanley had 3 and Taylor and Malamazian each with 2.

Today's win clinched a win for IU in the annual Governor's Cup competition.

Tuesday night we're on the road at Cincinnati with a 6:00 start.  Next Thur.-Sat. we finish the B1G season on the road at Michigan.

Hoosiers hang on and get an 8-7 win to open the 3-game series.  Kraft started and pitched 4 strong innings and then fell apart in the 5th when Michigan scored 4 to erase what had been a 7-2 IU lead.  Decker-Patty, Yarberry & Seebold finished the game allowing just one more Michigan run.  We had 12 hits with 5 separate batters getting 2 each.  Hanley, Denny and Stadler each with 2 RBI.

Men got the job done again last night with an 8-1 win and per Austin Render should assure them of a top 6 seed in the B1G tournament.  Gilley started and allowed just 1 run to score on 3 hits in 6 innings.  Grable pitched the final 3 and didn't give up any hits.  A really good night from our much maligned pitching staff.  We scored our 8 runs on 8 hits with Cerny getting 3 and Denny 2.  Taylor had 3 RBI all on a 3rd inning HR.

Michigan won the Saturday finale 8-3 but the Hoosiers will still be a 6 seed in the B1G tournament when they face #10 seed Rutgers on Tuesday.  Michigan had 12 hits in the game and scored early and often and led 5-0 after just 2 innings.  We had 8 hits with Taylor and Wiggins each with 2.  Taylor had 2 RBI.

We are in the strange situation of essentially playing for our season today even though the team plays Friday no matter what. With how tiebreakers work, a loss today ends the season for whoever loses after their next game in this thing.

If everyone is 1-1, Iowa advances as highest ranked team in pool. If IU loses today, the winner of Rutgers and Iowa tomorrow wins the pool and advances to the semi's regardless, and the game Friday against the Hawkeyes will take place but is almost like a consolation contest with nothing on the line. If the Hoosiers win today, the Iowa vs. Rutgers game becomes irrelevant and the winner between Hoosiers and Hawkeyes on Friday advances.

The good news is you only need four wins now to win the thing and it is spaced out so you only have to win three games in three days if you get past today instead of playing four days straight. Bad news is double elimination is gone, so unless you are the top seed in the pool every matchup is essentially single elimination (and potentially double elimination if you are top seed in the pool for first two games depending on how things fall).
