IU at Illinois Game Thread (1/24 - 9pm - BTN)

Recommended Posts

I doubt Freddie Fingers gets in more than once in the 2nd. Seemed like Archie was trying to get Juwan some air more than normal. We have to continue to plug along. Illinois is good at creating turnovers and fouling people as well as offensive boards.

At this point, Miller needs to start assessing penalties for free throw percentage. 1/2 mile at the end of every practice for each percentage point you shoot under 80 for guards. Same under 75 for forwards. Or maybe some suicides. I bet this nonsense would stop.

Running doesn’t help your free throws. Shooting them repetitively does. They should each be putting up at least 100 per day if not more.

It gives an incentive for players to camp out in Cook Hall and shoot FTs til they can’t lift their arms. “You can shoot or run. Your choice.”

Exactly, at the end of practice they have to hit 50 or so. Some may be done soon, a couple guys going by this year may be there till midnight.

I hope you're right.  Fisch mentioned that Archie was really trying to keep the players fresh by frequent substituting.  It looked like a couple of Ill players looked almost gassed just before halftime.  Hopefully we can outlast them.

2 words.... D Fence. The activity level and intensity on D has been there. Illinois has broke it down a few times and made some difficult shots but overall we are seeing the new IU identity being ushered in. It's getting better and better. Stop turning it over on silly one's and we'd be up 12-15 right now.

Agreed. They need to be putting up shots before and after practice. Incentive to end practice with makes. Idk, but something needs to happen on these. Before games you see these guys putting up free throw after free throw hitting them. I don’t understand why they can’t during the game.

Coaches have limited practice time. I want to say it’s 20 hours/week. You can use that time on FT shooting and get decent free throw shooting. Make them run, you get a well conditioned team that will learn to shoot when they get sick of running. Sprints/suicides/etc are a hell of a motivator.

Is like to see Clifton in to see how he does. No big bruiser for Illinois so maybe he can hold his own for a bit
