I don't watch practices but from what I've heard from people, he's been doing a great job in practices and is expected to get solid minutes, but will likely not start, especially to begin his season. The coaching staff has been impressed with his work ethic and his physical ability and his improvement since he's stepped onto campus.

Hey thx.

He looks strong like a Big Ten big. Looking forward to watching him play hopefully 4 years if that is good for him too.

Plenty of bigs that can contribute?

Davis and Morgan. Morgan can't be the lone "big" on a tourney team. He was fantastic for a big portion of the conference season. However, he can't defend the best bigs nor can he sustain that level of play over the course of a season. The wear and tear is too much for an undersized 5.

No it's not. Smith can play down low. Davis Hunter Forrester Thompson. Way more depth there then at guard

I do not see Hunter playing down low like that posting and pounding. He will be a 2 or 3.

He will play plenty of the 4. And few 4s play down low exclusively. Just because he's the 4th tallest on the court does it mean he's a post player. We literally only have one post player on our team.

That's kind of my point. Davis is the only current player on the roster who is a "big." That's not a shot at Morgan, Smith, or any others. How will Davis rebound from an Achilles injury?

Thompson could play down low for short stretches but he's not a big. Forester will get some run down low, eventually. Moore needs to add some muscle, and understanding of basketball.

We have two open scholarships without any transfers. I'd look for a guard and a big.

Thompson is for sure a big and plays almost exclusively in the post.

So we have a big coming off an injury and an undersized redshirt freshman to man the middle. I would prefer Thompson to play the backup to Morgan. Moore or Forrester would have to pack on muscle and learn a ton about basketball.

Give me a serviceable grad transfer that can contribute for 20 minutes a game. Thompson can get 10-15 for Morgan at the 4.

So... in your opinion..  we need that more then a guard???

Are Moore, Smith, Forrester just not going to play at all?

There's 200 mins a night to play

Morgan and Romeo would get 30 a piece on avg.

Who are going to be our guards? Romeo vs. The world?

RP is a FR.. he'll get 18-22mins, hopefully and I mean hopefully DG grows up. Durham is serviceable. What happens if there's foul trouble or injury?

Hunter will struggle defensively early.. he isn't the answer next year. He'll give us a solid 12-20 mins a night. Justin Smith (ish) from this year.

If we get a transfer big..  basically telling Moore to transfer (that's fine) and Forrester won't play at all. Smith is a college 4 with his skill set at this point. I don't think Anderson will be ready.

We have two open a schollies. Give me a guard (Romeo or grad transfer) and a big (grad transfer).

I get Smith's skill set is more of a college 4 at this time but he and Hunter both need to work to play the 3.

Minutes distribution

Phinisee/Green/Durham (20/15/5)
Romeo/Durham/Anderson (30/5/5)
Smith/Hunter/Durham (20/10/5)
Morgan/Thompson/Smith (25/10/5)
Davis/Morgan (20/5/?)

Give me a grad transfer that can contribute 20 minutes to allow Morgan to play the 4. I don't want to see small ball Morgan, Smith, Durham front courts. That works fine for certain situations but doesn't win major conferences.

Morgan, Smith, Romeo, grad transfer, and Green could do serious damage in the B1G.

With RP, Hunter, Thompson, Davis, Durham, McRoberts the other mins. Just because those 5 start doesn't mean that'll be the only 5 on the court.

Virginia has won plenty of basketball playing small, so has Nova, and Butler. Pure size is irrelevant, length matters though.

You really think McRoberts isn’t in the rotation?

Also.. You say wear and tear of being a 5?.. the only thing they really do is defend ball screens. Sometimes other team have big guys that can score.. not usually down low though. Morgan is a much better college 5 then Davis.

I don't entirely disagree, but I would also say Morgan is a much better 4 than 5. So IU benefits by him NOT having to defend the other teams post.

When does he defend the post though? And why just because he is our 5 does he have to defend the other teams best big man. Smith will be great defensively.

People have to be able to take advantage of it and the way teams play now, they simply don't.

MSU would with their team this year, so we would play Davis more in that game. (That type game).

Happ would be a problem, as he is for everyone. Davis had 2 fouls in 3 mins in about half the games he played, so why does he need to start?
