10 losses is ok. Depending on who it is against. Can't be Penn St, Rutgers, Nebraska, School of Chairs and whoever else. It has to be against the tops of the top. Need to start scheduling like we used to.

The man has won two Big Ten titles. That's a fact. He's proven himself.

Dan Dakich said it perfectly on the Illinois broadcast. Sure, there are things that didn't go as well as you'd like, mistakes made, etc. but the guy has done not just a good job--he's done a phenomenal job the last 8 years. It's truly sad that many can't give him an ounce of credit.

Fair enough; I give him exactly one ounce of credit for having taken a decimated program, at a storied University, who's built in ability to draw superior talent is the envy of the Big Ten, and created a competitive basketball team. Unfortunately, it takes a combined pound of effort, knowledge, insight, game planning, orchestration, oversight, discipline and drive to win a National Championship; which leaves Tom Crean approximately 15 ounces short of the mark.

you said 7 and 8 th place finishes were unacceptable. I'm saying finishing 2nd but 6 games back should be considered unacceptable I guess my point shouldn't matter what place you finish but how many games out of 1st you finish

i have no problem giving him credit when it is do however I also have no problem calling him out when he hasn't done the greatest job. Doing a phenomenal job the last 8 years would be a matter of opinion but there is no denying the great job he has done this year so far

I'll never contend that a coach is above criticism.

The only thing he hasn't done is go to the Final Four. The program is healthy. Crean brought it out of the abyss. Not an easy task, though that's what it's made out to be--because Crean did it, it must be easy.

Academic focus, character development, strength training, recruiting, etc. etc. are all in place. The program is now healthy enough for sustained success. The down year after the last Big Ten title can be attributed to the large classes Crean had to start out with, along with the impossible-to-predict development of Zeller and Oladipo.

But hey, let's start over! Again.

And for the record, I don't know what it takes to win a title, but I know greatness when i see it, and so do you. We're fans of the greatest University in America, and we saw that greatness displayed on the court it in 76' and 80'. And It's not living in the past to use a matrix of championship traits to measure current teams by; it's wisdom. Crean's teams are competitive, and at times, exhilarating to watch, but they don't cover enough of their shortcomings to be a National Champion.

I've tried staying out of this thread, but now I have to say something. If anyone here "hates Tom Crean with a passion" it's a small minority. There is a very big difference between hating him and thinking he's not the right guy long term.

I've been vocal that he's not the right guy, and my stance hasn't changed. Once year does nothing to change that because at this point I couldn't possibly care less about the results of one year. That doesn't mean I hate him.

A true Hoosier fan does not hate Tom Crean. Tom Crean is just a man trying his best to win a title here, and there's nothing to hate about that. No, a true Hoosier hates there being nearly 30 years in between titles. A true Hoosier hates watching a product that despite 20 plus wins, still exhibits too many flaws to seriously challenge an end to that drought. A true Hoosier hates being told that all is right, when they know better. Again, I understand your point of view, and I respect it. I just don't agree with it.

I don't see any reason why Tom Crean's product can't win a national title. Most here said he'd never assemble a better team than Cody's sophomore year--until he did.

I respect your perspective. I simply don't see the relevance of Indiana's greatness in a past era. We are fighting a totally different war now. Timing is everything. Bob Knight was here at the right point in history. Maybe Crean is coming into his own as he turns 50?
