NCAA Tourney: Crean vs Top 23 Salaried Coaches

The stats:

 

As the talks of Donovan and others escalated, someone threw out how much money we'd need to swoon a big name coach. I thought it would be interesting to compare the top salary guys and their results.

 

The consistency of reaching the tournament of the top 9 is incredible. Also factor in many of those miss years are at the beginning of their careers. Not only do they get to the tournament, they win while they are there.

 

There are definitely tiers within college basketball coaching. Indiana currently isn't close to being considered in that elite tier.

 

 

Hopefully some movement can get us moving in the right direction. What sticks out to you guys?

Wow...outside of the top 4 and Izzo, there are a lot of over paid coaches (Jay Wright may be under paid, relatively speaking, but he does coach at a small private school).

What strikes me about this chart?

It's that CTC is the fifth worse on this list for % of getting an invite, and is one of the few whose entire career has been spent at P5 schools.

Has he got more incentive/bonus money in his contract and thus a lower base salary?  I wasn't sure if 41's table was total compensation or just base salary.

His base is between 400-600k with between 1.5-1.75million in deferred salary (bonuses?). So just a little over $2million a year I guess.
