Nojel Eastern is AWFUL. This game severely hurting his chances of being a lottery pick.
-
Exactly. Archie isn't the problem here people.
-
He'll be great for Louisville next year.

Intriguing since we got a visit from him. Archie clearly likes him since he's visiting personally and not sending an assistant. -
I believe IU is the only school pushing him to do that. Problem is, Lander is vastly overrated. I feel bad for him because he would have a lot of pressure on him to perform. There's a reason the bigger guys have never come calling. Caleb Love just beat him pretty good not too long ago.
-
I love the players we have coming in, so this isn't meant to be a slight to them, but our current 2020 recruiting class should be the kind of class IU pulls in when we're a top 10 team coming off consecutive Final 4 seasons and we're sure to cash in on a loaded 2021 class. A nice "glue guys" type of class. Instead, we're trying to get blood from a turnip and hope that Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway can shoot 40% from 3 and play 20+ mpg. Neither of those will happen. Again, I really like our current players and their long term potential, but this is not a "just wait 'til next year because help is on the way" type of class.
-
Of course they will. As long as the fans keep showing up, budget is in the black, ticket sales remain steady, players are eligible and go to class, what do they care? Why WOULD they care? This is all too obvious - IU administration DOES NOT CARE about basketball. Doesn't mean we can't get lucky and land some recruits and have some solid seasons, but we will never be fully committed to winning. The vision for IU basketball that we message board fans have for the program simply do not match the vision that the IU administration has.

I still can't believe we lost this game. 11 pt lead in 2nd half TJD was a beast Home game against unranked SEC team No starter above 6'7", only go about 7 or 8 deep First year coach whose team is coming off an NIT season It could be a long year again. I really, really, hope for this program's sake we can still muster a tournament invite.

This is where I think people are underestimating the possibility Archie takes another job. Per another board, he's perplexed how hard it is to get elite talent to Bloomington. If he had his way, the roster would have Lester Quinones and DJ Carton on it, with Dawson Garcia coming next year. Also Keion Brooks Jr whose ceiling is still high despite lackluster production. But, the pressure to win is still there. And the noise gets louder with every loss. So if you're at a school that isn't willing to play the game, but the pressure to win is extremely high, how is that going to make you feel as a coach? I believe that all coaches, Tom Crean and Archie Miller included, want to "play the game" because they know 3 things: Everyone else is doing it They're here to win basketball games It makes their job easier So if he's hamstrung by an athletic department but under immense pressure to put together great teams, what are you going to do? Sounds like an awfully tough job to me.
-
Hopefully this doesn't start another long midseason slide, but I'm not very optimistic on that.
-
Up 50-39 at one point. Outscored 30-14 after that. Maybe just maybe we should have gone in to TJD at some point in the 2nd half? I hate to say it, but Archie is a really bad 2nd half coach.
-
Disheartening in so many ways. We should have won this game by 10+ points, only to lose by 7 to freakin' Arkansas.
-
I wish his 3 pt % was higher but I like the 76% FT and 62% on all FGs. Hopefully he can be a 40+% from 3 for us that we've been seeking for the last few years. It seems like it's been forever since we've had that guy, probably Zeisloft was the most recent one we've had.

Exactly. It's possible to adore the sport at the same time recognizing it needs cleaning up in the worst way. IUBB is my favorite sports team by far and I'll support them forever, but it's frustrating we haven't been consistently competitive due to the rampant cheating going on in the sport. We should have had freakin' Donovan Mitchell but Adidas had him go to Louisville. It's hard not to argue the sport is fixed. To add to your post though, officiating and the constant reviews in the final 2 minutes really takes the fun out of a lot of the sport. It's normal for the last 1 minute of a game to take over 10 minutes to play out.

I like the idea of playing UConn on a regular basis too. Maybe do a home/home and a neutral court in MSG or something. We always have good games with them, and they're definitely a national brand even though they're in a non Power 5 conference.
-
I used to feel that way, but having IU/UK anywhere could draw well over 20,000 people, especially if it's in Indy or Chicago. That would be a great neutral court environment. But to the point of the thread, we don't necessarily need to play UK. Just need to play some big name school like KU, UNC, or UL.

It just seems like the university cares more about making everyone happy rather than committing to winning in the two big revenue sports. That's why they're giving everyone a seat at the table. -
Honestly it's probably for the best that Brooks didn't come to IU. He's not all that great, but it would have been perceived Archie is killing another lottery pick's talent. Who knows where we'd be though. Sure hope Dad saved all that bagman cash though, at this rate I don't think Keion will make it to the league anytime soon.

It might be time to change your avatar. -
Brooks doesn't score in less than 5 minutes of action against OSU. UK fans are letting Cal have it after going 0-2 in Vegas. They have no business being a top 15 team.

I'll be very disappointed if we don't win this tomorrow. This is a bad Notre Dame team. I saw them play against Toledo a few weeks ago, it took them OT to win at home. And that was with a very questionable call to get it to overtime too. That being said, we have an uncanny ability to allow some opposing player to have a career day against us, so you never know.
-
I'm starting to think Brooks wasn't that big of a miss after all. I'm struggling to find one thing he does well. He's got size, but he can't shoot well especially from 3. His defense isn't particularly strong either, there was a point last night where that one white kid was able to hit a 3 right in front of him because he didn't fight through screen at all. I think we would have been frustrated with him this year if he came here.

Dang, Sean May has gotten fat.
