Anytime I read the "Indiana guy" line I just think back to the fact that the most successful coach in our history was not an Indiana guy.  We hired a freaking Ohio guy with a degree from that detestable Ohio State University and well, he turned out okay. 

  Crean may have not been his hire but by giving him that huge extension, it may as well have been.  "Hey I didn't hire this guy but I gave him a huge extension with an increased buyout, oops my bad.  Please help me pay for my mistake!"   If the donors get fired up enough to pay Crean's buyout, don't you think they might want Glass gone too?  Which he has been a great AD overall for IU and I do not want him gone.  But he has definitely tied his wagon to Crean's fate by giving him that extension.

It's ok Charlie. I was just posting a different viewpoint from someone who has made his living from basketball since at least 1959. He might know what he's talking about even though I do find him extremely annoying. Besides, I'm not going to take anything you say to heart either. Pretty sure Dickie won't either.

  I wouldn't think so either but on another board there is somebody who apparently speaks with one of these donors and allegedly that individual told him if they did decide to finance a change of coaches that they would want Fred's head on a pike too.  Granted it is the internet and you can't believe everything you read but...it is quite possible the donors do not necessarily care about anything but the basketball program even though you & me obviously can see and appreciate the work that Fred Glass has done with the athletic department as a whole.

Yea, Alford has a way to go before I would think him the right guy, plus its 10.4 million to buy out his UCLA contract. Crews wasn't even going to take the St. Louis job for a while because he didn't want all the road time recruiting. Cheaney has never been a head coach, and has done very little coaching at all. Fife needs more seasoning before he's ready to be a head coach at a IU class school. I couldn't name one former IU player I would want in the job right now. 

I'd agree Glass is a good AD, just made an unbelievably stupid decision with Crean contract.  That happens sometimes, but it's difficult to stomach.

You really isn't much of an excuse anymore 25 games into the season. We should have seen signs of improvement by now right? I haven't seen any improvement from game 1 to game 25 just the same group of guys that turns the ball over 20 times a game with no purpose on offense.

This topic is silly. This guy resurrected are program from the ashes. Has he forgotten how to coach after the departure of 5 pro players? Is he without fault? No, is he on the floor? No. I know you are tired of hearing it, but this season is a by product of youth. If these freshmen stay four years, you will be building a statue for CTC. Go HOOSIERS! I think it would be up to the individual recruit. Truth is, if that logic were really true, no one would ever be able to rebuild a team. Personally, I think that way of thinking is a somewhat emotional over-reaction. CTC has done some pretty fine recruiting for a school that was pretty near death penalty. CKW has done some pretty good recruiting for a perennial doorstop. Recruits see the Sweet 16's, Final Fours, lottery picks, etc., a whole lot more than they see one years failure. Will it make a difference with any one recruit? Very possibly. But the snow we've had this year may have the same effect on some. 

I keep seeing this all over the place on IU forums. Do any of you guys have inside info about this, or are you just speculating based on your own beliefs? I get that winning plays into these guys decisions, but you guys are acting like it is the only actual reason a kid chooses to go to a school. There are a ton of reasons kids go to a school, if winning was the only actual reason a kid went to a school then Boehim, coach K, Izzo would be getting nothing but top 20 recruits every year. There are many factors that determine whether a kid goes to a specific school

No way people should want him fired. People thought a 9 seed was ludicrous when the preseason bracketology came out. Those are the people who want Coach gone. Its ridiculous. Now, I am a big fan of Coach, but to a certain degree. He's not a great coach, and has some serious flaws. Coach really needs to think of a different scheme because it just isn't working with this team. Its so easy to defend when there are no shooters or good IQ players. Just how it is. Only way I would consider coach on the hot seat is if we don't make the NIT this season, or doesn't make the tournament next year (if Vonleh returns). We will be fine. I did expect this team to be a little better, but knew this was more of a possibility than the flip side. It is what it is. Natural and I talked about this before the season. I don't want to belittle anyone because we are all entitled to our opinion, but anyone that thinks Crean should be fired soon is an idiot. You can not build a program without stability ( see IU football). National championships are not our birthright anymore. It's a different day. Nationalized recruiting and cable TV has changed the game. Judging Coach Crean by McCracken or Knight is unfair. That program is gone. Knight, Davis and Samscum took care of that. That being said, IU should be a top 30 team pretty consistently. That's what I'm watching. After next year I'll know if I want Coach Crean gone. I was expecting a down year and have always felt that IU wouldn't make the tourney. This team has fight. I like that. Next year the seat could start getting warm...
