go iu bb Posted February 24 Posted February 24 It's championship season! The women had their B1G Championship meet last week into the weekend. They finished 2nd to OSU. It ended up close but not nearly as close as last year (0.5 point difference). OSU was probably helped a bit by it being at their pool. IU's B1G champions: Grana: 100 fly - also had 2 2nd place finishes, great meet for her, 2nd to Bacon from Wisconsin in individual scoring Peplowski: 500 free - plus 2 3rd place finishes, great meet Paegle: 50 free Crawford: 200 breast Liu: 3 meter, platform diving - I haven't seen, but she was likely diver of the meet 400 medley relay https://swimswam.com/2025-b1g-womens-swimming-and-diving-championship-box-score/ The events that really hurt IU were the IM events. They got absolutely crushed by OSU in those. 112-9 in the 200 IM and 110-44 in the 400 IM for a combined 222-53 in those events. OSU outscored IU by only 58 points for the whole meet. Ouch. Unfortunately for IU, OSU had freshmen score a ton of points and Michigan had the best scoring of the meet by swimmers who will have eligibility left. Then in the next race, 100 back, IU goes 1-2-4. Not quite as impressive but still very good. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote

Looking at the times, I think some of the guys weren't even fully rested for this meet. That makes sense if they had already secured NCAA invites because a double taper can be tricky. Quote
go iu bb Posted March 2 Posted March 2 As posted above, IU wins the B1G Championship by a record margin. Some highlights: 3 B1G records in the 200 medley relay, 200 back (McDonald), 400 free relay 3 championship records in the 200 IM (McDonald), 100 breast (Brooks), 400 medley relay Won 11 events 1-2-3-4-5 finish in the 100 breast 1-2-3-4 finish in the 200 breast 1-2-4 in the 100 back Won every final heat in the 200 IM (A - 1st, B - 9th, C - 17th) 252 points from diving, even with Tyler having bit of an off meet McDonald won 3 individual events - 200 IM, 100 back, 200 back - top individual scorer (probably swimmer of the meet, not sure) Sarkany won 2 individual events - 500 free, 1650 free - tied for 2nd individual scoring 4th B1G championship in a row, 7th in 9 years McDonald's brother, Cooper, wasn't on the scoring roster but would've qualified for the 5th seed in the 500 free 'A' final if he was Everyone on IU's scoring roster scored at least 20 individual points IU will have 567 individual points returning (barring transfers), which is 2nd to Michigan IU's 200 IM was one of their stronger events (128 points), opposite of the women's team IU was the only team to score 100 or more points in an event. They did that in 5 events: 100 breast (138), 200 IM (128), 200 breast (126), 100 free (115), 100 back (100) IU wins: 200 medley relay 400 medley relay 400 free relay McDonald - 200 IM, 100 back, 200 back Sarkany - 500 free, 1650 free Brooks - 100 breast Matheny - 200 breast Henninger - 1m diving https://swimswam.com/indiana-men-win-4th-straight-big-10-title-with-largest-margin-of-victory-in-conference-history/ https://swimswam.com/2025-b1g-mens-swimming-and-diving-championship-box-score/ I'm pretty sure some, like Sarkany, weren't even fully rested so they should have even better times at the NCAAs. That family has been kind of flaky when it comes to college commitments. If she does come (and stays) maybe that will convince Aaron and/or Andrew to come as well. If IU can use this as a start of a Carmel pipeline that would be huge. She's a great swimmer so this is big news either way. She's a very fast and versatile Olympian. Here's some more about it: https://swimswam.com/olympic-medalist-alex-shackell-commits-to-indiana-university/ Edit: Interesting. She'll start at IU in spring of 2026. At that time, she'll train at both IU and Carmel. She'll continue to concentrate on international competitions. So is she going to compete for IU at all? This is odd. https://swimswam.com/alex-shackell-will-have-a-hybrid-schedule-at-indiana-continue-training-in-carmel/ Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote

I’m hoping it sticks because it could open some doors. It seems like there have been a few Carmel swimmers that end up going back there to train. I assume the hybrid schedule means she can be on scholarship and will compete in a few meets each year for IU. Quote
go iu bb Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Heading into the last 2 events of the NCAA Championships, IU is in a battle with Tennessee for 4th place, tied at 264 points. IU should be able to hold on to finish 4th ahead of UT, though. They have 2 divers set to score points on the platform, Liu qualified for the A final as the 2nd seed and Roselli in the B final as the 13th seed. This should give IU enough points to hold off UT after the 400 free relay, where UT is seeded 3rd and IU 8th. This will be IU's best finish in a while. Anna Peplowski won an individual championship for IU in the 200 free. https://www.idsnews.com/article/2025/03/indiana-swim-dive-anna-peplowski-ncaa-championships-iu-bloomington Edit: Skyler Liu is the platform diving champion This gives IU a 25 point lead over Tennessee heading into the relay. IU will finish 4th overall, their best ever. 4th place! LIHoosier and Class of '66 Old Fart 1 1 Quote
go iu bb Posted March 30 Posted March 30 The men had a great meet and finished 3rd, 12 points from 2nd place and 31 from 1st. They set multiple school and conference records as well as an American record. They swept the diving events. Highest finish in some time. They have some really great swimmers and divers returning but are graduating a lot. They'll have to reload.
