BeerBQ Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Tomer Frankel 9th in 200 Fly in 1:40.68. Burns 7th in 1:40.42. That is moving. Still in 5th with 189 and UL in 6th with 179. Class of '66 Old Fart and go iu bb 2 Quote
go iu bb Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Albiero for UL pulling out the win in the 200 fly really hurt. It'll come down to the relay. It'll be a very close finish for 5th place. UL is seeded 3rd and IU 7th. If they keep their seeds, IU beats UL by 2. It'll be an intense race. BeerBQ, Class of '66 Old Fart and go iu bb 3 Quote
go iu bb Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Not a great relay for IU. 1 second slower than their seed time. That dropped them to 6th. UL was on fire today. UL 211 IU 207 https://swimswam.com/2021-ncaa-mens-championships-day-4-finals-live-recap/ Class of '66 Old Fart and go iu bb 2 Quote
BeerBQ Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Tough finish but an overall solid meet. That was with a top guy out for the second half of the season. There are definitely pieces coming back for another good run. go iu bb 1 Quote
go iu bb Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Here's the day 4 results. IU finished 6th overall. 200 fly: Burns 7th, Frankel 10th (PR) 200 back: Steele 15th, Fantoni 16th 1650: Brinegar 10th 400 free relay: 10th Platform diving: Capobianco 10th Disappointing finish to get edged out for 5th in the end but a great meet. UL looked way ahead of them coming into the meet based on seed times but IU almost caught them. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2021/3/27/mens-swimming-and-diving-indiana-finishes-sixth-at-ncaa-championships.aspx Class of '66 Old Fart, HoosierAloha and go iu bb 3 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Capobianco Named Big Ten Diver of the Year For the second time in his collegiate career, Indiana redshirt junior diver Andrew Capobianco has been named the Big Ten Men's Diver of the Year. "Andrew was amazing this year," head diving coach Drew Johansen said. "He continued to improve from the first dive he did at the Big Ten Championships to the last dive he did at NCAAs. There was not an obstacle, or opponent, that was going to stop him." Capobianco won his second-consecutive national championship on the 3-Meter Springboard at the 2021 NCAA Championships with a score of 505.20. His score marked the third-highest output in the event in program history, made him the second-best performer in program history in the event, and was the highest score tallied at the championship since 2015 (529.10). He is the third Hoosier to win the 3M multiple times at the national meet, joining Jim Henry (1969, 70) and Ken Sitzberger (1965, 67). His title gives Indiana eight championships in the event. He left little doubt in defending his 2019 championship, setting the tone with a 91.80-point effort on his first of six dives. He would go on to distance himself from the pack with 84.00, 90.10, and 98.80-point dives on his final three attempts to land atop the podium. Capobianco also nabbed All-America honors on the 1M board (4th place) with 393.35 points and the Platform (11th place) with 368.55 points. The Holly Springs, N.C., native has earned seven All-America honors in his career. He finished 14th overall in individual points scored at the NCAA Championships with 41 points. His total was the second-highest figure posted by any diver, trailing only Jordan Windle (52 points) of Texas. He also outscored all other Big Ten swimmers and divers at the meet. At the Big Ten Championships, he earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors after winning gold on the 1M springboard. He also claimed fourth on the 3M and ninth on the Platform on his way to earning Big Ten Diver of the Championships for the first time in his career. At the NCAA Championships, Indiana finished sixth in the team standings with 207 points. For the eighth time in the last nine seasons the Hoosiers placed inside the top-10. BeerBQ Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Nice to see some recruits come on board. Next year’s class should be really good for the guys. The have about 4 guys that have already been fast enough to have scored at Big Tens including 2 guys ranked in the top 10. The top guy has been fast enough score at NCAAs already. Also worth noting a guy from my HS is committed. Class of '66 Old Fart, mamasa, go iu bb and 3 others 6 Quote
go iu bb Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Basketball is not the only sport getting new assistant coaches, the swim team got a new assistant diving coach, as well.
